We had the good fortune of connecting with Rahkal Shelton Roberson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rahkal, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
My end goal is to have created positive, long-lasting, and generational impacts on the lives of as many women as possible.
I want to end my career with systems/products in place that will inspire, educate, and promote professional development for girls and women even after I’m retired on a beach somewhere.
As an author, workplace peace advocate, career strategist, and certified professional life coach, I have the privilege to chip away at this end goal daily.
Through my business, books, and brand, I create emotionally safe environments and inspire professional development.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am the author of Woosah: A Survival Guide for Women of Color Working In Corporate, Woosah Workplace Peace a Workbook & Journal for Women of Color: 7 Keys for Obtaining a More Fulfiling Work Experience and the owner of Be The Inspired You, LLC, a personal and professional development business. With over 15 years of combined experience in broadcast, project management, and education, I leverage my professional problem-solving, critical thinking, and strategic planning skills with my knack for creativity, solutions, and passion for serving others. My uncanny ability to connect and educate is the foundation of my mission: serving, inspiring, and helping individuals confidently identify, own, and live out their God-given purpose. My heart for bridging personal and professional development as a tool for holistic success is what sets me apart.
I help women obtain more fulfilling work experiences while cultivating smart strategic career-planning moves. I also work with organizations and companies to develop talent and break free of self-imposed restrictions while creating harmony and strategy to live more significantly.
I’ve gotten to where I am today through failure, determination, challenges, learning, and lots of faith.
Navigating through workplace challenges, including microaggression, being undervalued, and workplace burnout, I learned a valuable lesson about prioritizing my whole self to better obtain professional success. I like to call this HYOUman in the workplace. I’ve discovered that if you’re no good as a person, you won’t be as effective as a professional.
I’ve overcome many workplace challenges by implementing proper self-care. I’m not talking about a pseudo notion of self-care as just getting a manicure or massage. Self-care is identifying our needs, being able to communicate these needs, and advocating for ourselves until those needs are met.
Firing my employer was the self-care that I needed. And my passion for serving others in the workplace is what birth my personal and professional business, Be The Inspired You.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Garden Room Atlanta is a spot I’d take my friends to for a small bite. Additionally, we would have mimosas at Garden Parc, dinner at The BQE Restaurant & Lounge, and certainly hit up the museum and art district. Some of the most exciting places and things to check out would be local parks and little 5 Points to thrift and shop. We would also spend one morning renting bikes to explore the Beltline. And we have to visit my home church, Victory ATL. Lastly, we would also check out Botanical Garden because it’s beautiful around this time.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As a newlywed and woman of faith, I would be remiss if I did not dedicate my shoutout to my top two people. My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ first and foremost, followed by my “Spodiodi Dopalicious” husband, the priest of our home and ruler of my heart.
Numerous other individuals and experiences, some good and others not so good, have contributed to my success. I mention the not-so-good individuals and experiences because they are equally important. Challenges develop character, strength, and resilience in us.
Every facet of my life (so far) had delivered the most appropriate people right when I needed them. This appropriateness includes dear mentors, mentees, therapists, organizations that I’ve been a part of, and even some of my favorite books that I’ve recently read. Atomic Habits, Called to Create, Discerning The Voice of God, and Successful Women Think Differently have been game-changing reads.
