We had the good fortune of connecting with Pure Palmer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pure, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I struggle with a chronic skin condition, which makes my skin very sensitive to products with fragrance or other unnatural additives in it. Most of the products on the market that are marketed towards people with sensitive skin don’t smell good and they don’t leave your skin feeling smooth and moisturized. I decided, “Enough is enough! I’m just going to make my own products.” The two products I first mastered handcrafting were Beard Oil and my original Brown Sugar, Honey body scrub. As I was researching I realized not only were all natural, organic, handmade products a rarity…there weren’t very many natural self care products made for people of color, specifically MEN of color. So although I make products for everyone, I started focusing more on making products for men because 1) they deserve it and 2) we women get tired of our man using all of our products (lol).

As my business continues to grow, I’ll continue to add products made specifically for small groups of people. A maturity line will be coming out very soon as well as a sensual/sexual health line, so keep an eye out!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Besides running my self care business, I am a licensed Realtor® and certified First Time Home Buyer’s Expert in the state of Georgia, as well as a Notary Public. It has been a rollercoaster ride, to say the least (lol). I thoroughly enjoy keeping simple things simple, and empowering others to build wealth and succeed at this game of life through wisdom and ease. I’m not going to lie, the state exam was not easy. I did not pass it the first time; reason being, my pre-license class ended like two months before the next available test date, which was during the pandemic. I thought I could take a month off and then pick back up studying right before the exam and be okay. Wrong. But once I regained focus it was up from there. I got my licensed, joined a brokerage, found a mentor and started closing deals.

I’m super happy and grateful to have joined a new team and will soon start making the transition towards commercial real estate and development. Although I enjoy helping people purchase their first homes, I want to help people become more self sufficient. To do so, I’m going to show people how to purchase land to grow their own food and build their forever homes; how to purchase commercial properties to run their own business and build generational wealth. My number one goal right now is to stand out from the rest of the agents in the south, not just chase a bag. It’s important to me to do something that’s thoroughly fulfilling. I know if I follow my heart and continue to be of service that the money will follow.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The first thing we’d do is head out to one of our favorite hiking trails. There are several to choose from, so maybe a new place everyday. Amicalola Falls and Tallulah Falls are two of our favs! We could stay a couple nights at The Getaway House up in Suches, GA. Lock our phones up and enjoy some peace and quiet in nature. They provide a complimentary vegan smores kit! It’s absolutely amazing.

As we head back to the city, we have to get a massage from Treat Your Feet – Buckhead. Miya gives the BEST sports massage. It’s like deep tissue and stretching. 10/10 recommend.

Favorite places to eat.. Jinya Ramen. OMG! To live for. Plant Based Pizzeria in Midtown. Salata at Atlantic Station. Slutty Vegan. Two Urban Licks, I could literally eat everyday. Botica for bottomless Pineapple Mimosas on the weekend. Local Green has the best Salmon Philly I ever had in my life! We can’t pass up The Battery…who doesn’t love Fat Tuesdays?? Planet Bombay has the most amazing curry and fried rice dishes. I haven’t had Bar Vegan yet, but that’s totally a place I’d try with my platonic life partner. Faux Real Burger. Bar Taco. Fresh to Order. Taqueria Tsunami, just wow. Nine Mile Station for some rooftop drinks. Ali’s cookies? Yes please.

On Sundays, we head over to the Loft Athletic Club for some TRAP Yoga with my boy Eazy (@yogaplayground). The vibes in there are always unmatched. Real genuine tribe. If you’re feeling down, I promise you won’t be when you leave.

We could head over to Unearthing Farm & Market in Edgewood to volunteer in their garden. I LOVE gardening! I feel like my most authentic self with my hands in the dirt and my fro blowing in the wind. (When I had a fro, of course)

It’s fall, so you know we have to catch the state fair!

Before we head out to the airport, we’ll walk around the belt line starting at Ponce City Market. We can get a coffee from one of the little shops inside. You’ll leave ATL feeling full of good plant based food and love!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Infinite, infinite gratitude to my brother(s) for being my human testers and first forever customers. I probably wouldn’t have even thought to make beard oil or self care products geared towards men of color if it weren’t for them and their support.

Infinite gratitude to my platonic life partner – Saturn – and her husband for being constant supporters & promoters of my brand. She is a licensed Massage Therapist and Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctor in the making. She often uses my products on her clients and they always have AMAZING results! Her husband is constantly sending customers my way and it’s always fulfilling to see my brand reach farther and farther each time. I wouldn’t doubt that my first international customer came from his recommendation.

Infinite gratitude to my family and my man who carry my brand with them in their day to day lives like its their own! I literally would not make it without their love and support.

Infinite, infinite gratitude to anyone who has ever purchased anything from Brown Sugar, Honey, anyone who has reposted or shared my brand and/or social media pages by word of mouth. There isn’t enough time in one life to show how much I appreciate all of you. Seriously.
