We had the good fortune of connecting with Princess Thorpe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Princess, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
For years friends, family, coworkers have encouraged me to step out on faith and use the gifts I have been given to bless others. So in 2020 during the pandemic I decided to walk that suggestion out. It has always been a dream to help others specifically families to live a better life!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
So one of the things that the pandemic allowed me to see was that the needs of our families did not reside simply in the traditional therapy room. For years I have engaged in non traditional therapy practices such as being outside for sessions, prayer, movement therapy, music therapy, progressive muscle relaxation and mindfulness. Families want to spend as much time as they can with each other. My therapy practice is fully online which allows me to cater to the needs of families with small children and adolescents. There is no travel time, no awkward time in the waiting room or filling out tons of written paper work. Families can login from the comfort of their own homes, complete the intake documents and pay online. They. will be able to manage their work/ school schedules while providing the emotional support needed. I get so excited when I see the progress my families and couples have made. The decision to engage in a fully online therapy practice was scary but I stepped out on faith. Most of the foundation was already laid our due to large or small therapy providers already using online platforms to bill and document their services prior to the pandemic. I engaged in some research with peers and decided to give it a try. Some of the lessons I’ve learned are consistency and perseverance are important. Any small business owner will tell you some days are better than others and when it is your business you have to work hard! I would like the world to know that Thorpe Therapy Inc is in the business of helping families grow and develop! I am a Atlanta Native watching this city change over time and my hope is that families will recognize the need for mental health support and get the help they need even if they do not choose Thorpe Therapy LLC.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am really a home body but if I had a friend come to the city we would have to eat breakfast at Thumbs Up in Edgewood (Vegan options) or Gocha’s Breakfast Bar off Cascade Rd (Nice Drunk menus) . For lunch depending on how hungry we are we could get some good food from The Bando off MLK they have some really good wings, hot dogs and burgers, Farm Burger on Memorial drive has some great Vegan options but they have a wide selection of juicy burgers (chicken or beef). I love a good burger. If you wanted to chill and get some drinks in an upscale atmosphere I would head to Marcel’s. They have a great list of wines and Al la cart menu! You can eat inside on their balcony with a perfect view of the city. If you enjoy going out for a late night cap we would head to Intermezzo Cafe in Midtown for their late night menu!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to Shout-out my wonderful husband for pushing me and believing in my gift! He has been with me the entire journey from the first day of my Master’s program. To my professors at Mercer School of Medicine in Macon, Ga, thanks for preparing me for this journey of helping families grow and reach their fullest potential. To the Marriage Ministry leaders at Word of Faith Dr. George and Yvonne Amos thank you for trusting me with your couples and families as well as allowing me to operate in my gift. And last but not least to Mrs. Camisha Perry the principal at Deerwood Academy for supporting, encouraging and building my skill sets. Thank you
