We had the good fortune of connecting with Passion Buchanan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Passion, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
When it comes to you knowing when to give up or keep going with your business I feel as though you have to weigh a lot of things. First, is this business YOUR dream? Or are you doing it to make Dad happy? Sometimes us as humans we tend to do things to make others happy which in return makes us miserable. If you know for a fact that the business is making you unhappy, angry and taking away your peace I would say definitely put YOU first and find whats out there for you. Now if this business is YOUR dream and you’ve worked long nights and cried one thousand tears then the word giving up is NOT an option. Yes the business may be slow for a while, yes people will complain about your prices, yes you will have haters, yes you will get people who look but don’t shop, yes you will have times where you lose money. But even with all of that you still have to push through. I don’t believe that we would go through all of those things to just give up. I know from experience how it feels to want to give up but the best thing you can do is push through. It will be hard from time to time but isn’t life? No matter if you’re working a 9-5 or running a 24/7 business you will go through. Something to always keep in mind especially if you have people that look up to you. If you do quit what message are you sending those around you ? What keeps me going is this question: Why would I work 9-5 bussing my butt making millions for someone else when I can put in the same amount of effort to make millions for myself. I hope that if you are reading this and have thought about quitting you DON’T.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I got to where I am by hard work and determination but most importantly GOD. When running a business you go through a lot not just finically but mentally as well. I am one who believes with God we can do anything. Sharing a post on Instagram is not enough you have to go the extra mile so when it comes to my business I would sometimes stay up until 5 am some nights talking to vendors. It is not easy because you cant do a lot of things like the fact that you have to sacrifice a lot of personal time. I make everything you see attached to my business because in my mind I want to be able to have that skill that could potentially be another business. I just believe that you have to be willing to do whatever it takes. Even with my business being “small” I treat it like it’s bigger than amazon. Somethings that i’ve learned while running this business is that you never want to start it because you’ve seen that it made someone else a lot of money. Just because it worked for them doesn’t mean that you will be able to do the same thing. You definitely have to be different if you are going to start a business make sure you put a twist on what you’re selling. I’ve also learned that it will not happen over night you have to work hard and stay consistently. Also don’t just get into a business for the money, if thats all you want you will never be successful. I want everyone to know that I have been through a lot over the last year, my mom died , my mental health was challenged , my grades in school suffered but I never showed my hurt in pain within my brand. I don’t care how much I go through I will never use my story as a way to make people shop. I don’t want you to buy because you feel bad for me I want your support because you want to give it. T Twenty Seven Co. LLC means more to me than just money this is a dedication to my mom. T was the first letter of her first name and 27 was the day she was born. I’m doing this because I want to carry on even after her death. We always talked about running a business together so this is for her.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friends came into town we would go to this beautiful lake around the way and hang out make s’mores, drink and gossip. I would also cook some of my favorite dishes to make sure they stay fed. We would go downtown at night to hang out and view the lights.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give credit to my mother Tonyetta Buchanan. She did everything she could for me and my 3 siblings. No matter what was going on my mom made sure to wake up every morning and go to work just to make sure we could keep food on the table. Without my mom showing me how bad things can get ( from being hungry to not having a place to stay) it pushed me to make sure that I do whatever I can to make it. I wanted to run this business with my mom but unfortunately she’s no longer here. But mama I’m pushing through for US. I love you
