We had the good fortune of connecting with Olivia Louis-Jean and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Olivia, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always loved all forms of art. I chose to pursue modeling and acting because people would always tell me that I looked like a model, and I was interested in fashion and entertainment. Once I started doing runway shows, photo shoots, and being on set, I realized this is what I want to do. Using your imagination to create art is so much fun. When I model and act, I am given the chance to express myself and tell a story. That freedom to create is what I love.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Modeling and acting started off as a hobby while I was in college. It was just for fun. It was a challenge for me to do some things because of my school and work schedules. I overcame these challenges by doing overnight filming and weekend runway shows that fit my schedule. Being on set overnight, sometimes I didn’t get any sleep at all. The lack of sleep I occasionally had didn’t bother me because I was doing something I loved. Along the way, the lessons I learned were related to how to be more prepared for castings, what to avoid, and that making friends and networking in the entertainment industry is very beneficial. The more modeling and acting I did, the more I started to think, what if it was more than a hobby? After I graduated college, I started taking modeling and acting more seriously. I want the world to know that I love modeling and acting, and that I am driven, I’m professional, and this is my passion.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The first thing I would do is take my friend out to eat. I’m vegan, so I would do Slutty Vegan or either a cultural restaurant. I love food from other countries. I also love to cook, so I would also plan to cook a few meals during that week long trip. We would visit several spots, such as museums, the Georgia Aquarium. and the Atlanta Botanical Garden. Comedy shows, poetry readings, and live entertainment would also fill the itinerary. To me, the most fun and authentic things to do in Atlanta are related to art, food, and music. I would also plan to have a couple days of relaxation and stay in to watch movies. I would make sure my friend has a lot of fun.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my family. My mom and younger sister, Jahmelia, have been very supportive. My mom modeled when I was younger, so she was a great inspiration to me. My sister, Jahmelia. is a photographer, model, and actress as well. We have modeled in runway shows and photoshoots together, along with being on several sets. We pretty much do everything together. As a photographer, she has taken photos for me, a few of which that have gotten internationally published. My family has always shown me love and support, whether it was sharing my posts on social media, taking my photos, or giving me emotional support.
