We had the good fortune of connecting with Olivia Ettinger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Olivia, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I chose to pursue a more artistic route for my future career because of how unpredictable and liberating photography can be. As someone who strives for structure, photography has allowed me to let go of my worries and work towards my goals spontaneously. Another reason I chose an artistic path is because of how it allows me to use a medium that allows for both documentation and expression. I have been able to grow throughout my journey with photography because of the many ways I am able to capture a scene, and because of that I am so passionate about any opportunity I have to try something new and switch up my style. I am excited to see where photography takes me throughout my artistic career and I cannot wait to see what I learn next as I am still studying art and photography as a student. Beyond my formal education, I know that I will continue to grow throughout my exploration of photography as my artistic interests change with me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As of right now I am still a student studying Early Childhood Education and Photography. I am still able to develop my artistic career through paid and unpaid photo sessions despite my limited time and resources. My student status and my location in middle Georgia has restricted my ability to grow as a photographer to the fullest extent, but I am actively learning new ways to increase my skill set and my connections on campus and beyond through my platform on social media. I have learned new ways to present my work in a way that allows for more interest in potential models and more viewing of my work overall. I cannot emphasize enough how I am still learning as a photographer and I look forward to making more connections and advances in my technique throughout the duration of my artistic career.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of my favorite spots in Atlanta are Piedmont Park, Cabbagetown District, and Margaret Mitchell Square. My ideal week in the city would be a trip the the High Museum, a picnic at Piedmont Park, lunch at the Slutty Vegan, and walks/drives through some of my favorite spots along with areas that I have yet to get familiar with! I would also love to drive through various neighborhoods to see all of the different houses, admire their architectural differences, and imagine how life would be if I lived in each house. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout my friends who have supported my growth as a photographer through their support of my work and through their assistance of my goals by acting as my models. I also found inspiration from more experienced photographers like Cindy Sherman, Richard Avedon, Kwame Brathwaite, William Eggleston, Robert Mapplethorpe, and many other contemporary artists.
