We had the good fortune of connecting with Noah Sills and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Noah, what inspires you?
I’m inspired by other artists, musicians and creatives. I’m inspired by sports. I love going sporting events, especially baseball. I try to go to all of the Braves Bobblehead games. I usually go by myself to reset and reflect. It also forces me to meet and talk to new people. Hearing other people’s stories is inspiring to me, especially for songwriting.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Nowadays I’m focused on my band, ‘Arkose’. It’s my friend and I, Tad Adams, running the whole thing. It’s been a lot of fun to see the growth of the band so far. We went to high school together and did marching band together. I called him to play some guitar on some songs and we’ve been working together ever since. We’re finishing up an album right now and it should be out by October. We’ve been working on it since early 2021.
I also work with different artists in the studio or live. I was on tour with Eddie 9V for a couple years. Just played the Atlanta Jazz Festival with KELS. About to hit the road with Kennedy Ryon in a couple months. I’m very blessed to be asked to play with different artists all the time. It keeps things fresh and exciting.
None of it has been easy. There has been some easy times but overall it’s an up and down journey. Honestly, that’s what makes it rewarding. I know this is what I’m supposed to be doing. That’s what makes it easy sometimes. Having that comfort of knowing you are supposed to be doing something is a great feeling. I’m grateful for that.
Some of the best lessons have come from rejection. Someone told me, “rejection is protection”. That stuck with me. Rejection hurts sometimes, but honestly it’s part of it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Man I like a couple spots around town. I’m born and raised in metro Atlanta. I would say, if you’re looking for anything chill, go to the Marietta Square. Good food, good drinks, good coffee, good clothing stores. My favorite clothing store, Collected ATL, is there.
I like most things around the beltline. The beltline is a solid representation of the city in my opinion.
I like driving around the city too. I usually drive through all of the spots once a month. It’s inspiring for me. I like different spots for different reasons.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Oh I have to say my parents. They found ways to allow me to try different things and activities. I think the only activity they said no to was Boy Scouts, which is funny in retrospect. I played all of the sports (baseball, basketball, football, tennis, golf, soccer). They also put a lot of music in front me. I still remember going through my dad’s burnt CD collection. I found so much hiphop and R&B that sampled jazz music. I remember one CD had ‘They Reminisce Over You’ on it. It was number 9 on there. That’s what got me into saxophone. Tom Scott was the sample and I was blessed to meet and play with Tom Scott a couple years ago. Full circle. But yeah I can brag about my parents all day. They really shaped me into the man I am today and I thank them for that.
