We had the good fortune of connecting with Naomi Ibañez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Naomi, how do you think about risk?
Having the courage to take risks plays a major role in becoming an entrepreneur, & the risk that I have taken over the past two years have led me to becoming the owner of two business at only the age of 20. In my personal experience, I took the risk at the age of 18 to quit my job, & drop out of college to commence my career as a nail artist, & to most recently launching my own brand of nail essentials (nail charms, nail tips, tools & more.)
My experiences these past 2 years as an entrepreneur have been filled with many “leaps of faith”, however as opposed to being intimidate & left to wonder “what if…”, I’ve grown to be more intrepid & I’ve gained greater insight.
Nonetheless, despite the impact a risk may have on on my businesses and personal life, I am always open to learning from both my my wins & losses to turn them into strengths and knowledge for the future.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Being a first generation here in America has been very tough because I’ve had to teach myself the ins & outs of entrepreneurship, and all the financial and legal matters that come into play. I am very proud to see how much I have accomplished at only 20 years old, owning two businesses this young was not what I saw myself doing 5 years ago, but I don’t regret anything!
I am currently most excited to begin a new journey with my new brand “Naomi’s Nail Box” as a nail supply owner! I’m looking foward to helping other nail techs obtain their necessities for their own businesses, while also continuing my career as a nail artist, “Nailed by Naomi”
Looking back, two years ago taking the decision to drop out of college and quit my regular job impacted my life greatly, the beginning was difficult and quite discouraging due to the lack of of support, a lot of people thought what I was doing was “a waste of time” and was consistently told that “without a college degree you won’t be successful” however over the past two years I have done nothing but proven them all wrong.
I want my story be an inspiration to people and show them that anything is possible & you don’t have to settle for “society’s norms” if you have a dream CHASE IT! It’s okay to be selfish and put yourself first! Choose a happy life doing what you love rather than settling for something less that makes you miserable just to make others around you happy or to fit into society’s basic standards. Always CHOOSE YOU, & never be afraid to take any risks. Because if I hadn’t taken any risks, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am from Athens, Georgia born & raised, It is a college town, but it is small. I would definitely recommend that they visit during football season, which is when we get the most action in Athens, from the tailgating to the actual football games, I would definitely do brunch at Mama’s Boy, & a walk through downtown Athens, & UGA campus like the fountain on Herty Field near the Arch. Once in a while (with permission) I love going to the top level of the college avenue parking garage to get a great overview of downtown Athens.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My love for nails was initiated and highly encouraged by my late grandma. During my childhood, she would always gift me nail polishes of all sorts of colors and nail stickers and would sit with me for hours on end as I designed & decorated her long natural nails over and over again.
Aside from other friends & family I specifically want to thank my younger brother, he has been my biggest supporter since day one. despite the major life changing decisions I took, he has always stayed in my corner and continued to motivate me no matter what.
And of course, my clients! Especially those who have trusted me from when I first started learning the art of acrylic nails to now. They make me look foward to continuing my career, push me to become better and are beyond supportive. If it wasn’t for them, pursuing my career would not be possible!
