We had the good fortune of connecting with Mychal Abbott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mychal, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued a creative career because it gives me a platform to show my individuality through fashion. While also being creative in marketing, content, and web designs for the boutique. It’s my safe space and allows me to think outside the box during the process. I take pride in having an eye for many talents. Such as styling hair, make-up, home design, and fashion. However, I decided to choose the fashion route because I enjoy styling and putting pieces together. It’s something about creating an outfit that exhilarates my mood.

Which lead me into creating MJ Couture Boutique. I launched this online boutique to help motivate and influence other women through style and fashion. MJ Couture is here for unique looks, and items only you can find in a boutique. We provide quality items for any occasion, while still being glamorous.
Creating an online boutique as a career gives you a constant opportunity to create.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
MJ Couture Boutique’s 26 year old CEO, Mychal Abbott, is a graduate from Georgia State University where she earned her Associate Degree in Healthcare Administration. She also attended Emory University School of Medicine and received her Bachelors Degree in Medical Science. Mychal walks in pride as a beautiful lady of Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc. She is an current licensed Radiologic Technologist in Georgia (ARRT)(R). In first pursuing a career in her degree, by day she works full-time at two of Atlanta’s finest hospitals Emory Hospital (PT) and Piedmont Hospital (FT) as a Neuro Endovascular Radiology Technologist.

With determination and focusing on her dream of entrepreneurship, Mychal launched MJ Couture Boutique 1 year ago. The boutique thus far has been a success and continues to thrive. The success of starting a business and working a full-time job has not been easy. MJ Couture has had challenges in learning how to adapt to balancing the workload. The biggest lesson learned was time management, setting time aside to handle business for the boutique. Working long nights at the hospital, and still finding time to brand, create content, shipping, adding new items, photoshoots, and etc was a challenge. Not having that balance began to set MJ Couture back from growing to its full potential. Changes had to be made and I learned to plan, set time aside on certain days, and execute the task. In order to brand and grow MJ Couture in a year, as well as working full time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I enjoy any place with good scenery and provides a good aesthetic. In Atlanta visiting Piedmont Park and taking part in fun activities such as The Painted Pin and Andretti’s are great to visit. Tacos are my favorite so many rooftop bars with tacos. The Beltline and Ponce City Market are places to check out for a good time. Ending the night at Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams is a must.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Growing up I was influenced and inspired by my aunt who owns several businesses in the beauty industry to become an entrepreneur. Watching her as I grew up, I knew I wanted to own my own business. Her support and mentorship in helping start MJ Couture as an online business will always be appreciated. So shoutout to my aunt, Shannon Smith, for being an inspiration for a true BOSS. Also, shoutout to my mother, family members, and friends for their support and encouragement. MJ Couture has grown very well thanks to my support system. I couldn’t have done it without them.
