We had the good fortune of connecting with Munik and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Munik, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
So when we first started around 2015-2016 our main aim was to build a community and brand that continued pushing the Atlanta culture we were brought up in. The Kitboys Club, created a platform for us to execute on all the ideas we have for doing so. Thankfully we have a team of us that still believe in it, and they push me. Now its a fashion brand as well as a record label which is what we envisioned.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well we just released The Kitboys Tape Vol. 2 so I’ve been pretty occupied with the rollout of that like videos, shows, releasing the project. This is our (Munik, Leekmatic, Jah) second mixtape, with features from Smok3 and Wiz Kelly with production from Holy Rain (“All Day”) as well as Elija Paris (“Wow” & “Therapy”). I’m super excited about Volume 2 because I think it gives people a good idea of what to expect from us moving forward. We recently had a show at 529 East Atlanta, which was pretty crazy so I better see y’all at the next one!
Other than the music though, I work closely with the Lucid Twins at Lucid FC and they help me with so much. They’re really Atlanta legends in my eyes, so to work with them is constant inspiration.
What sets you apart from other artists?
I don’t think anything sets me apart really, I like connecting and relating to people and artists rather than separating myself from them.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d probably take em out to Edgewood, EAV, or Buckhead. That’s where I spend most of my time when I do go out. I go to Atlanta United games sometimes, Hawks games too. Atlanta is lacking in terms of shopping but a few stores I do like are Cease and Desist, WishATL, Lucid, Versus, and Exclusive Game. There’s plenty to do in Atlanta if you know where to go.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Most definitely want to shout out all the homies I collaborate with daily with Kitboys and Lucid. My family always, Kou, Smoke, Leek, Jah, The Twins, but there’s so many more that help me unconditionally. Also, Khallil Stewart, who I recently been working with.
