We had the good fortune of connecting with Mulan The Goddess and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mulan, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
The most important advice that my parents always gave me was, “Do what you love”. With that being said, I pursued an artistic and creative career, because it’s simply what I love to do. I think that people tend to get lost in this fast pace world, and they forgot to stop and visualize what is truly around them. Art, creating, it’s literally all around you. Being artistic also has a lot of benefits to it as well, it stimulates your mind in ways that a math career just couldn’t.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As of now, I have been an arts advocate and educator for 4 years. Along with traveling to different states, modeling, and successfully operating my own Graphic Design and Digital Photography business. My determination and grit definitely set me apart from others, no matter how many times I’m knocked down, I always get back up again. Being a single mother of a daughter is probably my proudest moment, she’s so amazing, and she really makes me want to work 10x harder than what I already do. Where I am today was hard and it still isn’t easy, I’ve had many challenges being a single mother, but I know it takes time and wisdom to get where I’d truly like to be in life. I’ve learned that sometimes you have to take the high road, I’ve definitely learned more about myself, and ultimately, you never know the strengths that you possess inside of you, until you have to. I’d like the world to know about my brand, and my story, is that I’ve never given up. My logo design colors are red, black, and white; I placed emphasis on the red, because it represents power, emotion and attention. I am my brand, whether I’m modeling, or on my MacBook. I am what I represent, and I have spent years building myself and my brand from the ground up.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a Raleigh native, so we’d definitely hit up Perry’s Steakhouse or Ruth’s Chris, then we’d hit Glenwood, bar hop, have some drinks, finish it out with some hookah. My vibe, for a week? Museums in downtown Raleigh, walk around the city, take flicks on my vintage Polaroids, and then visit the NC Museum of Art. Always have to finish out with this sick ice cream spot in downtown, and shopping..Shopping is key.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to my parents and my siblings. Sounds cliche, but they have always encouraged my creativity, they never judged me, and to this day, they are still on my team. My family knows all the crazy ideas I’ve had in my lifetime so the fact that they still support me says a lot within itself.
