We had the good fortune of connecting with Monique Simmons and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monique, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I always receive compliments from friends, family, and strangers saying how beautiful I am . Since I was younger , I remember people always saying I was beautiful ; however , I wouldn’t always feel beautiful within until I was in my early 20’s which is where I coined my social media /brand name Beautifuleput which to me means beautiful from within. People would always say , “ I wish I had your confidence” so when I created my business/brand , my goal is always to ensure when women leave me , they actually not only look beautiful but they feel beautiful from within. I started in 2019 with doing beautifuleput faces , but during the pandemic , my feelings were so up and down, but when I would get dressed and get into my word , I would feel beautiful from within which is where Solomon 4:7 became a part of my logo which says you are altogether beautiful , my darling , there is no flaw in you ! I enjoy making people feel beautiful and through person styling and doing make up , I came up with my business /brand .

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am one of a kind . I have an infectious personality which is what I feel set me apart from others. It was not easy getting to where I am professionally in my career nor in my business. I had a bunch of loopholes to get through in order to get through college with Math being extremely hard for me to pass. 🙂 Honestly , the thing that kept me going is seeing how far I came whenever I felt like giving up . A lot of times we focus on what we don’t have we forget that the blessing we are living in was once what we prayed so long for. Therefore , whenever , I get sad about my career and my business or feeling like I am not where I want to be , I remember God has me right where I am supposed to be. I was raised in New Orleans and when I left New Orleans to come to (Maryland) 18 years ago , I was a lost soul and I had mo idea what direction I wanted to go , but God was always the center of my life and he always steered me on my path and today I am a living proof that with God on your side , all things are possible!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Here in the DMV, there is so much to do . We would go to a couple places for dinner in DC Including Trulucks and D’Lena in Dc. We would also go to the swingers club in dc for a little golf. 🙂 we would grab drinks at 1942 in DC and catch a happy hour in VA at Flirt. We would hang out at the national harbor and grab food at Succotash. We would head to Baltimore and eat at Papi Cuisine. Towards the end of the trip we would go back to VA and fo to King Spa for a day of relaxation .
