We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michelle, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting my own business evolved over time. I actually like working for someone else who is in charge of “everything”. I like knowing when I’ll get paid and how much I get paid, not having to worry about health insurance and having “all” the responsibility on my shoulders. However, after 2020 things changed. I had a much different outlook. Like many people, 2020 changed me. I am a working journalist. A news anchor/reporter by trade, working for the number one news/talk station in the south eastern U.S. And the news cycle just never ended. Between the pandemic, the social injustice and the political landscape, something inside me broke. I knew something needed to change, because I knew that I couldn’t go through another presidential campaign like the previous one where my life and the lives of my colleagues and co-workers were being threatened simply because people didn’t like what they were hearing on the news. That’s just unacceptable in my book. And so, I knew I needed to do something that would provide me an opportunity to take a break if things got that heated again. I need to start my own business and be able to support myself and so that really kick started my journey.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I offer a variety of services including media consulting, communications, which includes but is not limited to writing Press Releases, Scripts, social media posts, emails, etc. for individuals, small businesses, and non-profits who desperately need communications help, but don’t have a communications department to handle things like external communications.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in the Atlanta area so there are so many things to see. I mean even before you leave the airport. I’d advise my friend to walk from their gate to baggage claim to check out the history of Atlanta and the amazing art work some of our local artists have created that’s on display. We’d go by Martin Luther King, Jr’s home and the Carter Center. Check out the Georgia Aquarium, and the Center for Human and Civil Rights, with a stop in Centennial Olympic Park. We’d go to The Battery where the Braves play and Mercedes Benz Stadium. Then the Atlanta Botanical and Gibbs Gardens to see just some of the natural beauty around here. A good hike up Kennesaw mountain. Perhaps a drive down Peachtree Battle to see some lovely homes. We’d then hop in the car and go north up to the North Georgia wine country, and enjoy the mountains. And of course there’d be food… oh man, the food here is great. Hitting Mary Mac’s tea room, and The Varsity, but also places like Atkins Park or Mezza Luna in Smryna. Then we’d head towards the coast and check out Savannah for a bit before just taking some time to check out the beltline and ponce city market.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So many people deserve a shout out! First and foremost God for giving me the talent, gifts, and skill to do what I do. My parents, Lucius and Joyce Wright for encouraging me “to find something I love to do and then do it” and then supporting me when I said “I like to talk, watch TV, and then tell people about what I find out”. My college professors and internship coordinators and bosses, who trained and help me nurture my craft. All my co-workers past and present who are supportive. The team at Live Your Vision, who helped me identify my strengths, values, beliefs and passions and then helped me formulate the vision for my company. And all of my clients who have trusted me to help them communicate what needs to be communicated to their audience.
