We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle S. Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michelle S., what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
I believe that outsiders are unaware of how much work goes on behind the scenes to reach a higher level of success. People tend to look at the end product and feel that “you have it made” when they see you on television, magazines, stage or social media. However they are not recognizing the tremendous amount of time, money, resources and teamwork that it takes to achieve that six, seven and above figures. Gaining success takes one level of commitment… however sustaining and elevating your success is a completely different speed. It takes sacrifice, long hours and dedication to your profession to keep all of the “engines” firing! As a speaker, author, coach and business owner I must provide time, attention, growth to each entity separately. That takes a lot of organizing and focus. Each one requires a different type of focus and if I want to remain successful in all , I must block out time to give each the attention they demand. It’s like having seven toddlers at one time LOL. But I will be the first to say that I could not do this alone, so you also must surround yourself with the right support team. Not people that are just “yes people” but people that are experts in their fields that will provide you with the RIGHT support not just what you want to hear type of support. Which brings me to the final point. Never allow any amount of success make you so arrogant that you cannot take direction from others. If you ostracize your team, you will end up alone in your journey
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a 4X #1 International Best Selling Author, An International Motivation Speaker and Educator, a Certified Life/ Relationship/ Business Coach and a proud Multiple Minority Business Owner.
I am most proud of my story! I was not just handed any of these titles, I had to “grow through some things” to get to this level. I had to overcome abuse, neglect, divorce, bankruptcy, negative opinions, self-doubt, and discrimination. When you add on the tremendous pain of the loss of not one but TWO kids, I am PROUD that I am still standing! When I speak to people about recovery, I do not come from a place of what I heard, read or was taught… it comes from a TRUE place of “doing my work!”
I feel what sets me apart is that I do not resemble what I have been through. I still trust, love and BELIEVE in PEOPLE! Any one of those things that happened to me could have changed who I was prior to, but there was this UNRESOUNDING almost defiant drive in me that KNEW that I was meant for MORE! I could have given up, hide my past or succumb to my pains because that would have been easy. But I CHOSE to SHOW UP and not only tell my story but pout into others … even when my heart was aching and life was falling apart. That is nothing BUT GOD!
I coined the phrase that “Life was my unframeable degree!” because I want people to know that no matter where you are in life, despite what odds may be against you, YOU can accomplish the IMPOSSIBLE if you continue to show up!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First we would definitely have to go to the Georgia Aquarium! I love watching all of the different types of aquatic species big and small. We could also take a day to go to the Botanical Gardens.
Then we would go grab some brunch at the Corner Café in Buckhead one day, then another we would definitely have to go to the Flying Biscuit! I am a southern gal at heart and love me some good ole’ brunch and if they have mimosas you have me sold!
Then for my friends we can head over to the mall. I say for my friends because they all know that I am not a shopper but I will do it for them because I am a great hostess-smile. But they know that’ll be only one day that week-choose wisely LOL
We will spend some nights going to some great bars and restaurants. Being new to Georgia I have not been to a lot but my favorite thus far is Fellowship! I love the atmosphere, a good cigar and whiskey plus the food (as you see I love some good food!)
I am really a person that likes to entertain so most of the time we will be hanging by the pool, grilling out, having good drinks, watching movies and listening to some good music! But if anyone has any good spots that I should check out please do not hesitate to let me know!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
SHOUTOUT to my talented, smart, funny, successful and strong family! I have been blessed to have some of the most phenomenal kids the world has ever seen. I am their BIGGEST fan
I want to SHOUTOUT my TEAM! They are the people that have placed their faith in my visions and make all of these successful businesses thrive. Tiffany, Jay, Laotia, Derek, Jaylin and De’Ajanae are making Sixcess Industries Inc., Michelle S. Thomas Group, Hair 2 You Now, The Mindful Village Publishing Company, and 888 Innovative Designs the most amazing, growing companies in their perspective industries.
SHOUTOUT to Karen for being the driving force behind the current and future growth of PS Sixcess LLC
and last but not least SHOUTOUT to Mr. Fattar Thomas for being the ABSOLUTE best husband, CEO and support system. He is the “man of my dreams!” and without him none of this success would EVER be possible. Twenty-one years ago we talked about all that we wanted to accomplish. Throughout many trials, relocations, challenges and a tremendous loss we still persevered into making those dreams into reality.
Without any of these people in my life I would not have the strength, grace or ability to serve the world with my purpose!
