We had the good fortune of connecting with Martinique Harden and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Martinique, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When the thought came to my mind about starting my own business for lashes the first thing you think about with any thing involving work is money. I wanted more than just money. I did’nt want to start off smallI wanted a brand, a corporation, generational wealth for my son. It seemed so far fetch. It seemed too hard because of the stage in my life I was at. When I did begin to take the initial steps I needed in order to be able to start the process It became over whelming and I found myself wanting to skip or jump instead of walking. I started to write down ideas and pray for guidance and the reveal any steps he ordered for me. Once I understood that My business is as big as I want it to be and if I believe and trust God through it all I am literately unstoppable.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a licensed esthetician. I specialize in lash extensions and eye brows. When it comes to my business I will say that every single step , little or big accomplishment makes me proud. I like to think or everything as a growing experience and whether I succeeded or did’nt is still a lesson I can take with me in life. I started BlinkwithNique 3 years ago and although I still have a long way to go and things to accomplish I love to think that I have accomplished a good amount in my few years of being a small business owner. I started off trying to building my clientele any way possible. Any where from groupon’s to free services for models, specials, running ads, paid promotions you name it. It became times when I would get frustrated because I was tired of promoting and was not getting the clientele I expected. The biggest lesson I can say I learned from never giving up. You have to push yourself and be your own cheerleader because you know your dream and your potential better than anyone else. If you don’t believe it can be done then who will? I overcame a lot of my challenges by praying and knowing that God wont ever put me in a position that I cant handle. I would love for the world to know that anything is possible and if you have something you want to do no matter what it is if you want to then do it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would all of my credit to God and to my son. I have a great support system filled with friends family and love. However with out my son and THE GREAT MAN ABOVE I would not be where I am today.
