We had the good fortune of connecting with Marquita Brass and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marquita, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Growing up in Louisiana, food and family were very important. My mom and grandmother are great cooks and often cooked for the community. They’d even take on jobs that was cooking related. Cooking comes very natural to me. The love I share in the kitchen while creating my meals using amazing spices, I wanted to share that same love with the world.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Brass Cuisine Spices are in a category of its own! Unique southern spice blends that the world has been longing for.
I initially started in 2015 with my small catering business. With the motivation from repeat customers and their compliments on the unique “flavors” of the food i’d cater birth Brass Cuisine Spices in 2017
Becoming an entrepreneur wasn’t easy as I didn’t have any mentors. However I’ve always been smart and do not mind researching anything I don’t know. I spent countless days and nights researching the internet on starting my spice business. I sent countless emails to the city & state with questions and even visited countless spice shops.
I want the world to know that cooking with amazing spices makes a difference in the outcome of your food. It brings happiness to kitchen tables through smiles and body language. Brass Cuisine Spices are sure to make you happy.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Most of my friends and family that visit wishes for me to cook. After teasing them on social media with my amazing and delicious looking meals cooks daily, everyone is anxiously waiting to sit at my table 😍
There are a few places I like to frequent for nice drinks. I love Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen, Fish City Grill and State Fare.
It’s always refreshing to spend a little time down in Kemah, Tx or Galveston, Tx for a little fun also
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to shout out my amazing mother “Vickie” and phenomenal grandmother “Madea”! Both are extremely talented cooks and there is no doubt I inherited my talents from the both of them
