We had the good fortune of connecting with Marliee Rose and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marliee, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always wanted to own my own business. I knew I wanted to be able to have more freedom than the average person with an earning potential I control, not the hours I clock. I never enjoyed being an employee. When I got into nails and beauty it became clear to me what path I wanted to follow. I am a master cosmetologist who specializes in creative acrylic nails and I plan to get my instructors license as well. I am in the process of building my brand of acrylic and nail care products (Marliee Rose Nail Creativity and Beauty, LLC) and I plan to open my own nail school one day. I want to change the way people think of nails as just a simple accessory because it’s a luxury. It’s a lifestyle, actually
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Marliee Rose Nail Creativity and Beauty, LLC is a brand that represents quality, my brand color is purple for royalty. I take the time myself to research and test each product I plan to offer in order to ensure the highest quality. To me it’s not about the money (although that’s nice!), I love my clients and I love what I do and I want that to show in my products. I want other nail techs who share my passion for the art of nails to trust my brand and know that they will always get nothing but the best. Building my brand hasn’t been easy and I have a long road ahead, learning the ins and outs of marketing and running a business is something I’m learning as I go. There is a lot of trial and error, a lot of risks. But I have faith that what’s meant for me will always manifest. I learn from my mistakes and I get better with time. I want the world to know my brand was created from the heart, despite all obstacles presented against me. The key is not giving up.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would have to say the beach. I know it’s such a typical answer but after the pandemic and cancelled beach trips, cruises, and out of country flights- just relaxing on the beach sounds like a great time and my best friend would agree. We were planning to go to Miami, neither of us had ever been. Good food and drinks, and just creating unforgettable memories. I have the best time being spontaneous. The most interesting thing to watch to me is new or unfamiliar surroundings. I love to people watch and I enjoy nature and trying or seeing new things. I get a lot of inspiration this way
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are quite a few people that helped push me. If I had to choose one person that just truly made a difference, I would have to say my cosmetology instructor from Columbus Tech- Mrs. Edmonson, or Mrs. E as we called her. She was serious about us learning the correct way to do things and instilled that mindset of health is beauty in me that is displayed in the way I conduct my services and is also reflected in my policies. She was like a second mom. All my instructors were super supportive at the times I needed it the most. My mom, my children, my friends- they all helped encourage and push me to be greater and continue to strive for more
