We had the good fortune of connecting with Marika Daniel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marika, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
To me your whole life is all about balance because you’re being pushed in many directions at once. My balance of life has changed many of times due to the fact that as I continue to get older I keep myself busy. I currently balance college, my job, internship, photography, and my social life. Balance is the key to life, because it compels you to be a well rounded individual who can multitask.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Currently I am a junior in college majoring in mass communications with a double concentration in broadcasting and public relations. While in college I own my own photography business where I also create graphics and videos. I am also a licensed bartender who bartends private parties. As an upcoming entrepreneur and media woman I am most proud of myself for stepping outside of my comfort zone and getting to know the real me. The real me is goal oriented, a risk taker, ambitious, and a perfectionist. Nothing in life is easy, and getting to the point of knowing who I am and what I want for my business/career goals wasn’t easy. The hardest part in all of this is actually accomplishing them. My photography business is still in it’s early stages of life, but soon will expand with a space and more clientele in the near future. Keeping content going for my business is a challenge in itself everyday, which is why I’ve decided to expand and learn more than photography. I want to be a well rounded business so I’ve started my journey into graphic design and videography.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
With me living in between two states, my friends from North Carolina always want to travel to Georgia. If I were to plan a trip here I would first start off with brunch and a wine tasting at Chateau Elan Winery & Resort for the first day. Through out the week I would take them to Lips ATL, Trap Music Museum, Culture Experience ATL, the Georgia Aquarium, Six Flags, Fogo de Chão Brazilian Steakhouse, Max’s Pizza, The Sugar Factory, Georgia’s Juke Joint, and Krab Kingz ATL.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Like people used to say back in the day, ” it takes a village to raise a child.” Well, it took a village to raise me, so I’ll give some of the credit to the people that raised me. I specifically give all of the credit to my mother and godmother for always supporting me, encouraging me, and keeping me instilled with confidence and ambition.
