We had the good fortune of connecting with Makayla Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Makayla, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
What makes me the happiest with my business is shooting my passion projects. Doing those are both therapeutic and great practice for me. They give me creative control which allows me to fully express myself with my work, compared to doing paid shoots where I have to execute the clients vision. They remind me of why I started shooting in the first place.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think what sets me apart from others is how much of myself I put into my work. All of my work shows parts of myself and I think that’s rare. That’s one of the things I’m most proud of. I got to where l am today by just being myself and trusting the process. The process is riddled with challenges, and overcoming them is majority of the battle. I overcome them by getting outside of my head and trusting myself. I want the world to know that I put my all into my work.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
i would take my friend to climb Stone Mountain because the new at the top is amazing. Then maybe we can go see a movie at IPIC in midtown because I love a good trip to the movies. I would take them to the at rooftop at Ponce because it’s always a vibe. Nothing too crazy, just vibes the whole day.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout Cam Kirk Studios. I used to be terrified of shooting in a studio because of how intimidating it seemed. But that space really broke me out of that shell and I’m so appreciative of them. They’re so helpful and welcoming, and it means so much to have a space that feels like home.
