Meet M-16

We had the good fortune of connecting with M-16 and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi M-16, how does your business help the community?
Our show exists to give voice to those who are doing great work who may not be getting the recognition they deserve. We have given several artists their first interviews to allow them a platform to showcase themselves and their talents. We also provide radio play for up and coming musicians. We take pride in giving people a place where they can express themselves and promote their music, art, business, etc. We also partner with several other podcasts and collaborate with them on what we call “Bring A Friend Night” where they come and guest host for the night providing more exposure and promotion for them as well. In addition we are partners with a few PR companies who share their artists music as well as making them available for interviews which benefits the artists by giving them more places to be seen and heard and it helps us spread the word. It gives our show a sense of purpose that we exist to help good people pursue their dreams.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The Radio Show ATL is hip hop variety show that is one of the most unique experiences you can listen to or watch. It came to be from us just wanting to add something different to a crowded podcast landscape and making it our own. The show is an acquired taste so we had to fight back against the stigma that hip hop talk has to be so serious and added that element of humor and self deprecation. We produce sometimes 3 episodes a week. This would include prep time and research for an interview, the reading and or watching of current pop culture events and trends if we are discussing hot topics and once the show is recorded the editing and post production aspect. It can take up to four days or more to fully edit and release a show on video once it has been recorded. We also release an audio version which is edited separately. So keeping a steady streamline of content to release it’s rewarding but time consuming as well.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you are visiting Atlanta one place you must go to is The Battery at Truist Park. You not only can see a Braves game but it is full of great restaurants, a movie theater and activities nearby that can occupy your entire day. If you aren’t into being around sports Atlanta still has several options you could start by heading to The Varsity which is an ATL staple and then with my best friend being a musician we would head to Apache where there is always a music or comedy show and if you are an aspiring artist they have open mics for you to show your skills on the mic. Atlanta is so diverse so it really depends on your mood and what you are into and you can find it here.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My co-hosts (Ez, The Jerk, Tiki Blue, ATL Diva and Khujeaux) all deserve flowers. I want to specifically show some love for Ez who just happens to be my younger brother. He is not only a great personality with lots of informed takes on many subjects but he is a reliable and steady co host. Also sending much love to ATL Diva for being plugged into pop culture and for all of her contributions from her great ideas off camera concerning the use of buzz words for YouTube and endless show topics suggestions that capture the audience. These and our close podcast partners: On The Geaux, My Black Friend, The Break Room, The Fletcher Twins, Small Talk and so many other contributors who keep the wheels spinning for this crazy show that we do.
