We had the good fortune of connecting with Lottie Conner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lottie, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I’ve been an entrepreneur since the age of 21 when I graduated from cosmetology school. While in school I was also working part time and I was also a young wife and mother of a daughter. That career advanced to the point of me being an independent contractor in a salon then later becoming a salon manager for 15 years. Within that time I had also given birth to a set of twins so we’re still talking about work life balance right? Lol. So in 2004 I decided to return back to college to finish my BA degree in Psychology while still working full time in the salon and being a now single mother of 3. In 2013 I moved to Birmingham Alabama to pursue a new career in my field of mental Health. I’ve always enjoyed being creative and always had a passion for cooking. In May of 2017 my twins graduated from high school and I prepared all of the food and treats for their graduation dinner. I received so many compliments on how tasty everything was and from that point I started to create more and more sweet treats. This is where the evolution of Lo Lou’s Sweet Sensations came into fruition. While still working corporate America I launched my business at the end of 2017 and the rest has been history. Later becoming an LLC, my business has taken off with leaps and bounds. From signature cookies, various sweet treats, cakes and small catering Lo Lou’s Sweet Sensations stays busy. To date I am still a business executive in the field of mental Health while still owning and operating multiple businesses. Balance is practical and you must have a plan. I have learned over the years that you MUST take care of you 1st so that you’re able to show up as your best self. Also, prayer, my faith and spiritual journey has always gotten me through the most difficult times of my life. Without God none of these things that I have set my hands to would be possible. I’m so grateful that I have been blessed with multiple gifts and not just to keep to myself but to share them with all of you. Find your niche and perfect your craft.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Creativity is something that has always flowed from me and I’m grateful for that gift. No great success happens overnight. Growing a business is indeed a lot of blood, sweat, tears, trial and error. The thing that I have learned over the years is to never give up and be consistent. Consistency is the key to mastering success. The thing that sets me apart from others is my upbringing and exposure to different cultures. I was born and raised in Chicago, then attended high school and college in Mississippi, now well into my career and the birth of new businesses in Alabama. I have been blessed to experience and be exposed a variety of different people, places and foods. Cooking and baking brings people together and it can also be therapeutic. What not a better way to meet new people and introduce them to your world through what you enjoy doing.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Considering that Birmingham, Alabama is growing so much there are a variety of things to do so let’s start off with Monday. We would go to dinner and have drinks at Roots and Relvery which is located downtown. It is an upscale fine dining experience and the drinks are very good. Next, we have to experience Taco Tuesday at Casa Fiesta located in The Pinnacle shopping center in Trussville, Al. Wednesday we would do brunch at Big Bad Breakfast located on 280 in Birmingham. Thursday night we can go to Ruth’s Place for soul food and live band karaoke. Friday night we’re going to hangout at 88 Birmingham to checkout some great music from local artists and have drinks. Saturday we’ll do a little shopping at the outlets of Grand River, grab some ice cream at Jenni’s in Avondale, go watch the Birmingham Stallions USFL play at Protective Stadium and grab food while we’re there and finally Sunday we have to go to my church The Tower of Prayer in Leeds, Al, then have dinner and catch some live music all in one place at The Perfect Note. Maybe later we could find Jazz in the Park somewhere or go to a comedy show in Hoover, Alabama at the Stardome. There’ you have it a super eventful week in Birmingham, Alabama..

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First of all God deserves all the glory and recognition for my story. Then of course my parents for training me up and raising me to be the woman that I am today. Lastly, my 3 reasons that have always given me that push and tenacity to keep going when I wanted to throw in the towel are my now successful, productive, adult children, Terian , Daylon and Donovan. It’s because of them that I have worked tirelessly to shoot for the stars.
