We had the good fortune of connecting with Lori Rourk and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lori, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always had a very strong creative vision and independent spirit. From early on in my career, I realized that to fully express my design ideas and work directly with clients in a personal and meaningful way, I needed the freedom to build my own brand. Being on my own allowed me to say yes to projects that truly inspire me —whether that’s transforming homes across the country, designing for television, or creating content for a magazine article. It’s also given me the flexibility to evolve, stay hands-on with every detail, and maintain the high level of quality and authenticity that my clients expect. Running my own business has been challenging at times, but it’s also been incredibly rewarding because it reflects exactly who I am as a designer.

What should our readers know about your business?
What makes me most proud is seeing my clients’ faces light up when they walk into their finished space. After 35 years in this business, that feeling never gets old. I love transforming a house into a true home – one that reflects who my clients are and how they want to live. The relationships I have built through this process are what excite me the most. I don’t just design spaces; I help create happiness and comfort that people feel every single day when they walk through their door. I think this is what sets me apart from other designers. I create a personal connection with each client. After 35 years, I have built my business on trust, intuition, and genuine care. I listen deeply to what the client wants their home or business to feel like – not just how it should look. My work is known for it beauty, personality, and livability, but also about the joy one should feel when entering into their home or business.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For sure, every person that visits me, I take them to “The Forth”. This hotel/social club has the ambiance and amenities that everyone enjoys!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To my beautiful clients throughout the last 35 years!
