Meet Latrina Walden | Mom, Nurse Practitioner, Entrepreneur, and Thought Leader

We had the good fortune of connecting with Latrina Walden and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Latrina, what do you want your legacy to be?
I want my legacy to lie within the actions I’ve taken to change the nursing industry, and specifically the Nurse Practitioner community. In addition to that, I’d love for this endeavor and passion to be something I leave for my children. The legacy will reflect my hard work, my determination, and persistence towards making a difference. Essentially, a positive legacy that is built on my actions, the confidence I instilled, and something that would stick with my students.

I want others to remember me for my loving spirit as far as my love for teaching, my style of teaching, making nursing fun, and enjoying what I did wholeheartedly.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have established myself as a go-to expert in the nursing industry! With over 20 years of experience as a nursing home administrator, dialysis nurse, administration nurse, emergency room nurse, and family nurse practitioner, I have decided to bridge the educational gap within a community I am familiar with. My extensive knowledge in the nursing industry, academic experience, and dedication to the nursing community have led her to identify major disconnects between university curriculums and real-world practice, uprooting the beginning of my career.

My administrative background sets me apart the most because I have an understanding of why management does the things they do, understand the numbers and behaviors. Also, I am a nurse and nurse practitioner, which started when I held the position of Nursing Home Administrator. Then, I expressed my interest in going to nursing school and gained the support of my higher-ups within that position. As far as ease, it was not easy at all. That support system of my work family, colleagues, and of course family at home is one of the many things that has gotten me to where I am today.

Gratefully, I’ve learned patience and a massive amount of time management in my career journey. I tend to take on many things, so learning to be patient with myself, analyze the solutions to my problems, and simply take time; everything tends to fall in place. By doing so, my brand and story unfold directly from my passion and drive to impact the nursing and nurse practitioner community in an amazing way! So, with that being said, that is what I am most excited about. Being able to build and sustain a company, LWES is one that will always be here to support those going through their NP journey.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friend were to come to Atlanta for a weekend, we would visit many food places because I am such a foodie! But, the top 5 places we would go would probably fall between: 1. Trend Urban Cafe
2. Ponce City Market for the vibes and surrounding food options
3. If in the summer, we could visit Piedmont and grab some food at the Sundial
4. La Petit Marche for a great brunch
5. APT 4B

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As a company that goes beyond providing test prep, I’d have to give gratitude towards my students who joined me on Facebook from the very beginning, causing the company to grow and reach times like these! The community and word-of-mouth contribution to LWES proves itself to be invaluable! Shoutout specifically to the University of Texas at Arlington students, because they are a huge aspect of how I’ve gotten to where I am now. Also, of course, I’d like to thank my family, my spouse, and cousins for believing in the vision and pushing me to follow my dreams and take risks. Lastly, I’d like to thank my team because they stand by my ideas, execute them, and put the students first on a daily basis.
