We had the good fortune of connecting with KJ Cash and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi KJ, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I look at risk taking as apart of life, we all take risks in our everyday lives. When we get out of the bed we’re taking risk, when we walk out the house we’re taking a risk. Risk taking gives us experiences. Whether they are good or bad experiences, it’s life and it builds us into the people who we are. I took a risk when I decided to jump into the entertainment world, I had no clue what I was getting into. I just knew I wanted to help people. Even when I was in college I took risks. From choosing my major, to studying law to telling my Dean I didn’t want to be a lawyer. Risk taking is a necessary part of life, risking taking is walking out on faith and believing you’re going to succeed.
What should our readers know about your business?
If you would have asked me 20-30 years ago where I would be, I wouldn’t have thought I would be here, in Los Angeles with my own business in entertainment. I’m from Akron Ohio, there’s not a lot of positive things coming from there, don’t get me wrong I love and rep my city and state with all my heart. But growing up there I don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel, so I don’t even plan for the future I just survived moment to moment. So I told myself years ago I’ll never go back home a failure and I’ll make the city of Akron proud. So when I look back at where I started I get excited because I can only imagine where I’m going to be in the next 40-50 years. If you don’t take anything from this please take this, life has many roads some bumpy and some smooth but no matter what embrace the journey, learn from it and know that you’re meant for greatness. That sums up C&C Mgnt and my journey.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh this is a hard one because I’m a history buff and foodie, Atlanta caters to these two hands down. I love the Herndon House knowing that Mr. Herndon born into slavery and then establishing a chain of barber shops…..AMAZING. The Oakland cemetery tour is a great tour, Apex Museum is always fun just because it changes every time and you can’t forget the Cvil Rights Museum. Being from Ohio honestly makes me really appreciate the history of Atlanta. Now when it comes to food I’m all over the place, from Paschal’s, Twisted Souls, Big Daddy’s, K&K Soul Food and these are when I just want some feel good meals. But when I want to get out and rub elbows I go to Bones, Ray’s In The City, Sun Dial, Chops & Lobster, Park 75 or Oceanaire. Atlanta offers so much that it honestly it takes about a good 2 weeks for you to truly enjoy it.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My stepdad George Harmon for loving me, accepting me and showing me how to believe in yourself and your dreams. Mrs. Kaczor my teacher who won’t let me fail and knew I was special, for welcoming me into her home and heart. John Futch, Aaron Burgess, Denise Benton and Professor Yvonne Atkins for seeing my potential and not letting me give up when I wanted to throw in the towel. Veronica Robinson for being my sounding board and Yolo partner, thanks for believing in my craziness. And thanks to all the C&C Mgnt family for entrusting me with their dreams and goals, I love and appreciate everyone of you. And thanks to all the naysayers and doubters, you made me want to fight harder and chase my dreams with all my heart.
