We had the good fortune of connecting with Kiyarah Hamilton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kiyarah, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I first brought up my business, I didn’t think it would be challenging but I was wrong, it more than just challenging. There are a numerous amount of different ideas you have to take a part into when creating your own business. I started my business in the peak of COVID-19, with little to no money but I had the determination and motivation to go forward. There were a lot of people who were just like me creating their own businesses around this time, so the support for small businesses and black owned businesses began to grow. I knew that I wanted to be successful, I know that I wanted to uphold my business to high standard, I want to be the best-selling hair company in the DC/MD/VA and ATL area. I started to connect with some other business owners, advice, classes, help and more. Still to this day, I still look to register for marketing seminars, cerftication classes, and more.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My businesses are my babies, I give my all into both of my businesses. That is my greatest and most proud accomplishments are my businesses. You can start a business, but not take care of it, nurture it, groom it etc. a lot of people do not learn or realize that until they have a business of their own. A business is like a person, it literally never stops growing.. it will not be easy, it’s never going to be easy. You never realize your mistakes until you make them, but you also have to work and see what works and what doesn’t work for your business. You will overcome challenges every day with your business, with time .. success will come. Lessons are being learned every day, with different situations, customers etc. I am a full-time college student majoring in Social Work, a full-time job and two blossoming businesses but I still make it work. I put my heart into anything I feel passionate about, more than money goes into a business. A successful business takes time, money, patience, consistency, and more.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am originally from Prince Georges County, Maryland but I spend majority of my time in Atlanta, Georgia and I plan to move there as soon as I graduate from college.. some of the spots I would suggest in ATL would be “The Goodz’, “STK”, “Milk & Honey” there is a lot of hookah lounges to go to or clubs. Here in the city, we have lots of restaurants..”Ben’s Next Door”, “Guapos”, “Lauriol Plaza” etc.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank and shoutout my support system but GOD most importantly. My support system includes my mom, grandmother, dad, aunt and the rest of my family. I lost my great-grandmother about 3 years prior to me starting my business, and if she was here to see me today.. she would be more than proud. Everything I do is for you, thank you Mema. I would like to also thank my friends for always posting, buying, booking etc. and being consistent! Last but not least, I would like to thank my baby, my love, my go-to and everything, for the consistent and constant support! I love y’all with my whole heart.
