We had the good fortune of connecting with King Slick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi King, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I would say the most important factor behind my success would be my ability to adapt and evolve, while staying true to my brand and my audience. There’s so many blogs, podcasts, radio shows, YouTube channels, etc. out there that you have to find a way to stand out. Because many content creators are making it by concentrating on negativity, messy gossip and “Shade,” I stand out by keeping my content positive and for the betterment of the community. Now, don’t think we don’t push the envelope at Slick Talk with our shows and content. We just try to find universal topics that everyone can relate to, while not cutting anyone else down. This is who I am as a person. This is who we are as a team. These are our values and we make sure the brand reflects that. My partner Jae and I constantly revamp and add to the brand in order to stay current with what’s going on out there. Social media is ever-changing, so we have to keep up. But at the same time we don’t jeopardize our integrity for clicks and listens. We get those anyway because of the quality of our work.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Great networking skills are a MUST! In person or via social media. Some of my greatest interviews and collaborations started in “The DM.” I always say: If you’re not using social media to set up a great professional network, you’re just playing on your phone all day. My ability to network has landed me: movie and television roles, interviews and public relations work.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am in love with what’s going on down Peters Street in ATL. I usually start at OLG and work my way down the strip. Great food and great drinks up and down the street!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe so much of Slick Talk’s success to my family and friends. And also the Atlanta entertainment industry which embraced me from the start.
