We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendrick Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kendrick, how do you think about risk?
Lately I’ve tried to be more adamant on the risks I take. For a good portion of my life I’ve tried to keep things in control & play it safe, but in that I learned that’s not where growth resides. Growth can only happen once you open yourself up to new challenges that push you to the limit and in some cases beyond. So now more than ever I try to take more calculated risks and gambles. And if one thing doesn’t work I just try something else the next day. The experience from those risks is honestly invaluable.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
My work currently focuses on the fashion & beauty industry. I say currently because I want to expand past that and really tune into the things that made me look at the world differently such as skateboarding.

As for what sets me apart I guess I’d say my precision? My exposure to multiple cultures? I honestly don’t know lmao. I have things I love about my work however, as for that definitive thing I KNOW sets me apart hasn’t quite found me yet in my opinion. I’m sure hella people I know would beg to differ though.

This road hasn’t been easy at all. I quit my job working at City Gear short of one year to pursue photography as a whole. And with that I’ve faced so much that people honestly don’t know. For example the very first images I created was after a bad hurricane that left me without power for over a week. Thinking back on starting in that way makes me c=grateful to see how far I came and where I can see myself going towards.

Through that and amongst other things I just learned to remain grateful and to keep working even when sh*t looks like it won’t get any better. That and saying “F*CK IT!”. That mentality has helped me a lot personally. Just try sh*t, fail, try some other sh*t, fail better, repeat.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Keeping it a band I don’t know many spots up here in ATL since I just moved here lol. My best friend and I are both artist and love to work so we’d probably hit the art museum, slide to the skatepark for a while, and probably hit Harolds for some chicken & waffles. After that I can guarantee you we’d be locked in working for 10 hours straight. Working on our crafts is the highest point of fun to us.

That was probably the most boring answer ever, but f*ck it y’all wanted to know lol.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s actually hella people I could shoutout honestly. Of course I’ve got to shoutout my moms off rip. Without her I wouldn’t even have held a camera as early as I did. So I’m forever appreciative to her for exposing me to photography at such a young age. I have to show love to brother Matthew in D.C since he’s the one that legit pushes me to try new things in some way. Like this man legit sends me photo inspo on a daily. And even before now we would always branch out and explore different things in music, fashion, & culture which I feel like has helped tremendously in getting me to this current point.

As for other inspirations I have to rapid fire them here: Donte Maurice & Ahmad Barber (ABDM), Steve Cantrell, StephonX, Ericka Taylor, Brikarri, Lashawnda Benefield, Belinda Vickerson, Jerry Lorenzo, Christine Vazquez, Kanye West, Skateboarding as a whole, etc.

Without the above mentioned I wouldn’t be who I am today. I appreciate and love every one of y’all!
