We had the good fortune of connecting with Keith Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keith, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
I am a parent to two wonderful and inspiring children. Honestly the important thing I’ve done to impact my children is, I learned to listen to them. They have their own life experiences and understanding of the world. They have their own dreams, which may change, but for today they are theirs to have. I work hard to not invalidate those feelings and their insight to life. By my listening to them, they are learning to listen to themselves and make choices. Also, they have never seen me quit, but the have seen me bend, re-evaluate, and make another path to my goal. They’re getting pretty good at that.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a film director who has worked in the film industry for the past twenty-four years, first as a stuntman, and finally a writer/director. As far as what sets me apart from the others, well that’s a very long answer. I’d like to say it’s the love of story telling, or maybe my drive. I have those things, but mostly I believe it’s more the teamwork it takes to get things done in this business. no one person controls the end result. I like that. All of the movie molecules working together to create a film that can hopefully ad to someone’s life. Even if that addition is ninety minutes of entertainment. The thing I’m most proud of is the positive impact I’ve had on upcoming performers in the film industry. I’ve mentored some very talented young people as stunt performers and filmmakers, and it makes me happy to see their stars rise. For twenty-four years. I was a stuntman first, and the a fight choreographer/stunt coordinator and now I’m directing. Was it easy, no and it still isn’t. I’ve learned to take it one step at a time and remember that every break down or obstacle is just the counter balance to success. Things and sometime people standing in the way, let’s me know I’m on the right track. I named my production company Solidarity Entertainment inc. because we all have stories to tell, and I’d like to hear them told.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Thai is a hard question to answer. I’m very much a homebody. I like spending time with my family and dogs.I ‘ll give int a shot though. I like ponce city market. there’s a great Ramen place there. And the rooftop is pretty cool The way it overlooks parts of Atlanta at night is amazing. Afterwards we’d probably head to a cigar bar. Good scotch and cigars can’t be beat.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife Terese. She’s the most supportive and brilliant person I know. When times were tough, and the future unclear. she was there putting in the work.
