Meet Kam | Artist Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kam and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kam, why did you pursue a creative career?
As a child, I was always intrigued by my Godfather Ansel Butler. In my earlier childhood, he created a lion with Oils and I had the pleasure of watching it come to life. From that moment on, I knew I wanted to do that. Fast forward to elementary in 1st grade, when they asked you what you wanted to be, I always wanted to be an Entrepreneur. At such a young age I was merely infatuated with how long the word was so I was stuck on it mainly for it being a bigger word then teacher or police, LOL but I just knew I wanted to be bigger and better! Throughout life, I always added a creative touch, or was always somewhere trying to create something. It just has always intrigued my mind, and the thought of no judgement made it even better. In highschool, I had an experience with my Art Teacher who left a bad taste in my mouth for Art and School in general, however, I also LOVE, sports so instead of giving up all together on thoughts of going to Art School for something, I went to school to become a PE teacher. I received a call from my Grandfather who helped changed my mind on teaching so I dropped out of school and ended up being a stay at home mom. It was there that I discovered my Artistic talents for Cake Art. I made a cake of a PlayStation and Atari controllers and I fell in love. I began getting cake orders and 11 years later I still make cakes. About 6 Years into the Cake Journey, I attended a Paint and Sip. It was cool, but being an artist and having a studio at home, the vibes weren’t the same. My mom inspired me to get my Own shop and it was in 2017 where I got my First Storefront. Many people thought it would be a bakery because I had did cakes for many of people including 2 Chainz and Rick Ross, HOWEVER, the love, freedom and joy of Art was put into an Art Studio. The Brand Twisted Dips came to life so that I would no longer have to decide on one art form or another. There will always be a Twist to Art and you can Dip your hand in all forms. Since then, its been a Twisted Dips LIFESTYLE!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Twisted Dips is my Brand. The meaning behind Twisted Dips is that All forms of Art can be “Dipped” into and Twisted to make Unique Art. I like to call it Art YOUR WAY! I believe that Art is a form of expression and no one can truly tell a person what their “Art” should look like. What sets my Artist Style apart from others is that I like to purposely be Incorrect. I want to be incorrect in a way that it makes sense. When it comes to my cake, ideas just come to mind during the creation process. Sometimes I give people what they ask for, but most of the time I try to go beyond what they can imagine by adding special customized touches. I got to this point in my life by not giving up and Trusting the Process, and that is why it is the #1 Rule in all of my Business Establishments. By no means is it easy. When the process goes to easy, then I become worried, however Ive learned and am still learning to embrace the Process while trusting! What I want the world to know about the Twisted Dips Brand is… life is about the FREEDOM to be you. Its ok to do things that make you happy, even when no one else understands your Happy. These are the Twist that make you you and in all things, be your TRUe SELF, NO MATTER WHAT!!! When all else fails, TRUST THE PROCESS!!! Masterpieces take time. By doing this, I was able to open up a 2nd Storefront, Twisted Dips Smoke Shoppe and Lounge located in East Atlanta. It will be the 2nd pick up spot for our DIY Canvases and also Specialty Art Classes! This is still only the beginning.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Welll of course not to toot but we definitely hitting up ALL TWISTED DIPS!!! We’re going to the Art Studio in Morrow for a Paint and Sip at Twisted Dips first. After we leave there we are heading to the Twisted Dips Smoke Shoppe and Lounge in East Atlanta. Probably Grab a Hookah and Air Fried, some cute take home gifts for my friend and then we’re off to Eat!!! Now depending on the Weather, the Time and Day, Ill decide a restaurant with food like Lamb Chops or Salmon and we’ll go eat. After eating we’ll do a ride around tour of the city and all of the Dope Art Hot Spots. We’ll wrap around to The Home Depot Backyard at the Mercedes Benz stadium so I can show them where Twisted Dips was the FIRST AND ONLY Art Studio to host Sip and Paints on the Lawn. We’ll stop at Rosies for a quick drink and then head to Peter St. or Edgewood. If the occasion calls for something else, maybe we’ll hit up Piedmont and the Atlanta Botanical Garden. There’s a plethora of Food Options so Food would be the center of each day, seeing that Im a lowkey Foodie for ATL Eats! Massages and maybe a little shopping would get done but each day would be a different adventure around the City in order to experience the full culture, because lets be honest, East, West, North and South Atlanta all have different Vibes and Cultures.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The Biggest ShoutOut goes to my one and only BABY GIRL AIJA (Pronounced Asia) KAY! My Clone is the reason and inspiration behind everything I do. Shes the only one that has been there throughout the whole process of all my ups and downs. My big moments and my losses. Shes there to encourage me when Im going crazy, or calm me down when Im overthinking. Although she thinks Im to hard on her sometimes, she will come to work with me and work the areas she knows. She will make sure I have something to eat, shes just that all around person I can depend on and shes only 10! My next S/O is not to make my daughter superior but G…O… D!!! I will tell you I dont know how Im going to make stuff happen sometimes, but I DO KNOW , that my God has NEVER took his hand off me, even when it looked so wrong! Next I have to S/O my Mom of course for always being my Number one fan in whatever I do and supporting the randomness! S/O to my Siblings… We all bounce inspiration and motivation around from each other and they keep me going. S/O last but not least, ALLLL THE PEOPLE, rather it be on Social Media or in person, who SUPPORTS THE TWISTED DIPS BRAND AND LIFESTYLE. My FRIENDS… The Clients that have become Friends, Friends that have became Family, everybody. It takes a VILLAGE, and I couldnt do it without my Village. Many people say I inspire them, but its the people who I inspire that inspire me and I cant forget them… EVER!
