We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Boone and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Justin, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of myself personally as well as my brand come from my faith in God through my relationship with Jesus Christ. I am in a very unique position where I have been gifted with vision that extends beyond my natural talent and resources. This level of provision requires me to trust and have faith over the small things in order for me to receive all that has been promised over my life. Because of my faith in Jesus, God always provides for me in ways that use my current skills but also requires me to breed and exercise new ones. Without my relationship with God, I wouldn’t occupy the spaces in which I hold, neither me nor my brand would have the value and impact that it does. My success is dependent upon my faith matching my work.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My brand’s story is very specific, to me and my story. I didn’t grow into my love for fashion and style until I was a young adult. I always liked cool stuff, and I always loved putting together nice outfits, but I didn’t exercise my individuality until I was recognized the importance of that. I began customizing my clothing in college, and the freedom that I felt within that drove me to look at clothing a bit differently. I began to see almost every piece of clothing as if it were incomplete, looking for room for improvement. Learning how to do this while still respecting the garment and the artist’s original vision was of utmost importance. Learning how to properly add to a garment without taking away was a lesson and a challenge as I grew within my own artistry and design. Learning how to trust God, and allowing him to push me into new depths was also extremely important as I grew into my calling. It’s important for me to stay true to my brand’s narrative and that encompasses including God into every aspect of my work possible.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Atlanta, is a city filled with lots of opportunities and tons of stuff to do. If anybody knows me, they know that at any given day you don’t really know what I’m up to. If my bestfriend was coming to town, we would be sure to make a couple of stops at my favorite places. Unfortunately, due to COVID and the riots, some of my favorite businesses/shopping destinations have shut down, but there is still plenty to do. We would make stops at Clothing Retailers such as Versus ATL, Full Circle, Social Status, and Wish ATL. We would pass through the Shops at Buckhead hoping to grab a hold of my good friend and celebrity stylist Kris Shelby and after visiting a few more stores we would grab lunch at one my favorite spots; True Food Kitchen, Jinya Ramen Bar, or Le Bilboquet. If its a Thursday or Sunday Night, we would catch up with my friend Jay Reid who runs Dope Pedalers, an Atlanta Bicycle Club and take a ride throughout the city with his crew—but if it’s wednesday night you will absolutely catch us at Cascade Roller Skating Rink with more friends and a late night dinner at R. Thomas. I am a very active person, and I thoroughly enjoy involving my closest friends in anything and everything that I do. If we are feeling a bit more laid back and relaxed, meeting some friends for dinner, live music, and art at Rock Steady.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate my current level of success, as well as my accomplishments to God, as well my mother, Johnetta Boone. God has given me relationships and resources throughout my journey that I could not have done alone. My mother, has taken me under wing and groomed me to be my absolute best creatively, emphasizing the limitless possibilities within any and everything that I want to do. My mother has taken on a huge responsibility in bringing me alongside her within her own creative endeavors so that I have insight and the tools necessary to be successful in whatever I choose to do.
