We had the good fortune of connecting with Joshua Uttech and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joshua, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
It’s what I truly love doing, and I can’t really imagine doing something else. I am inspired by the stories you hear of people on their deathbeds, and their greatest regret is always that they didn’t live the life that they knew they should have. I want to know I tried this music gift out, and really gave it a shot, before I go off and try anything else with this life.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started performing as a singer at very young age, in choirs at schools and churches. When I started to discover Rock and R&B music, I started to daydream about being a performer. I started to perform seriously in 2018, and in 2019 released my first professional single track. I play music from my heart, and I write about honesty and feelings in my soul. I perform my songs and cover songs this way, all from the heart and soul. People comment on this, and it confirms I am in the right place. I keep going and performing wherever I can, and people keep saying “you’re great”, so I keep going.
I quit my full time job for a part time so I can focus on this music business full time. I must be doing something right because music is now the primary income for my household. It is very exciting and sometimes it can be scary, but I keep trusting and putting in the work, and it all seems to be going well so far.
I write rock, folk, and blues songs, and my music is for sale and a listen at www.uttechmusic.com, and streaming on all major platforms.
There are 2 EPs out to purchase and stream, and currently in the works on the first full length album, “The Spectrum”
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Explore Snoqualmie Falls, Mt. Rainier and Mt Baker national forests, eat in Seattle at Maximillien Restaurant, take them to the fancy Starbucks roastery, and then to a really good coffee shop like Herkimer or Victrola. Night life at the Crocodile for live music then on to Dicks for a bag of burgers and fries and of course the chocolate shake!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I of course will thank my parents, for working so hard to raise our huge family as well as they did. I thank the source of life that gave me this musical gift, and my old friend Kiani. Kiani was an amazing guitarist, and could play at an expert level when he was just 12 years old. He inspired me and helped me learn when I got my first guitar in our twenties and was teaching myself to play. Although he was much more advanced than me, he would teach me things and jam with me, and give me encouragement about how much guitar knowledge I had. He passed away a few years back from Lymphoma. I always feel connected to him when I’m performing and playing guitar. I want to make him proud and continue to help his music live on through mine. This is for Kiani Cockett, my guitar hero angel.
