We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Seamon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Music makes me happy.
Growing up, I was always surrounded by music. No matter what I was doing, there always seemed to be music playing. The house(s) that I grew up in were always filled with a melody. It either came from the powerful voice of my Nana, or an authentic old-school record player. When I listen to music, I’m reminded of some of the best times in my life. Some of the greatest moments in my life felt like movies; the clouds parting, sun shining, and music swelling!
Music has the ability to bring me a special type of joy that nothing else does. It makes me so happy to find and/or create a song that can perfectly communicate how I feel.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
In the “early stages” (which I’m still in), I was very fortunate to be seen by the right people to get to where I am. There will always be challenges, but you have to view them as learning experiences. I overcame a majority of those challenges with the help of the amazing support of my parents always guiding me towards the right path and encouraging me to question everything.
I’ve learned that it is important to create your own path. Sometimes people told me that the way I wanted to do things wasn’t the way things were done, but you can’t let that stop you! If you want to do something one way and you believe that is the best way to achieve your goal, simply do it. Easier said than done, I know, but now we have so many resources that can provide us with the tools and information on how to get started.
My story is one that some people might say is inspiring because of the hard work that they saw me put in, some say it’s a story of luck or blessings. I know that my story is mine because I wrote it, and you need to write yours.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Whenever I am home, I always go to a few specific places. I’m the type of person that once I find a place that I like I keep going back.
If my friend and I aren’t hanging out at home, I’ll go to the Black Dot Cultural Center. It’s a beautiful space that has everything you need and when we get hungry we’ll go right next to one of my favorite vegan spots, Green Love Kitchen. Their food is absolutely amazing, and you just have to get the kale salad! It’s spectacular, and I’ve never enjoyed a salad more! For my non-vegan friends, I might stop by First Watch. They always have amazing dishes that you can’t help but enjoy, and will always leave you feeling satisfied!
Finally, to round out our day, we might stop by Ponce City Market. Endless activities, food, and shopping. Whenever a friend comes to visit, I make sure I take them there.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Nana, Christine Lewis-Dukes. She is the reason I fell in love with music and acting. She introduced me to all of the iconic movies and shows that encouraged me to pursue a career in the film and music industry. Sadly, she passed before I made my debut, but I believe that she is smiling down on me and I carry her memory with me everywhere I go.
