We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonathan Reid SR and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jonathan, is there something you believe many others might not?
I was always told to “Never Burn Any Bridges”. But my Dad reminded me one time, ” Some bridges are meant to be burned, so that you’re not tempted to go back across them. stop looking back; keep moving forward.
What should our readers know about your business?
Separate Streams of income…..that was the impetus originally I had a mind growing up. I had a lawn business at the age of 12 for a new subdivision in my neighborhood, and I liked the fact of making my own money for me. That Real Estate bug has stuck with me and my entrepreneurial efforts as I’m also a Real Estate Developer/Investor (new construction, fix & flips, buy & hold).
After college, I went on to get an MBA in finance and worked for many years in corporate finance. Along the way, I began realizing just how powerful a tool real estate was for building wealth.
By taking advantage of the equity and available lines of credit, you can essentially use your properties as a source of financing without having to go through an actual bank. I was excited
about the possibilities real estate could offer, so I began reading and learning all I could about the industry.
Around that time, I met and befriended an experienced real estate professional who agreed to act as my mentor as I learned the ropes of flipping. We worked really well together and with his
guidance I began completing my first flips in Atlanta. We eventually decided to go into business together, and in 1995 we created House 911, an organization that provided educational
seminars and mentorship for folks interested in getting started in the real estate industry. This venture, combined with the success I was having in flipping houses, enabled me to eventually
quit my corporate job and dedicate myself full-time to real estate.
Yet, I never really quit the professional/corporate environment. I saw that I had a skill set in Finance and Project Management that I could use to start my own small business.
I’m the owner of Tier1 Management Consulting Group. My company is focused on Process strategy, IT & Financial Auditing, Advising Public Sector Firms and Private Corporations on Social Equity (DE&I, Judicial Equity, Health Equity, Digital Equity, Economic Equity). We’ve built a very strong team of certified DE&I consulting strategists, organizational trainers, and a broad catalog of DE&I course curriculum, which includes an array of topics such as Anti-Racism, Explicit and Unconscious Bias, Diversity in the Workplace, etc. I’m also a Certified Diversity Executive by Cornell University.
I like the quote, “Ever Failed? Ever Tried? Then fail again; try again”. That’s the evolution of my journey with business. Keep failing, Keep trying, every “no” gets you closer to the “yes”.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First of all, if the fellas are coming to town, we’re definitely golfing!
I love sporting events, so if one of the professional sports teams is playing that week, we’re definitely hitting up an NBA or NFL game.
In addition, I like live music, Jazz or R&B. There’s a couple of nice places in Midtown Atlanta I like to hit up. I’m a huge music lover, so indoor or outdoor concerts are fun.
One thing I like about Atlanta is the culture and arts. Recent museum exhibits are very enlightening and interactive. The Civil Rights Museum will make you emotional. Some of my friends who haven’t visited Atlanta in a while, like to visit The Aquarium, College Sports Hall of Fame, the MLK house, etc.
Travel is a big component of mine, so anywhere there is a beach, we’re traveling!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This is dedicated to Brittany, Jonathan JR, Marcus and my Grandkids….my reason for being. Also, to the small group of close friends who are not only in my circle, but in my corner. In addition, the book The Greatest Salesman in the World by Og Mandino is always motivational.
