We had the good fortune of connecting with John Reynolds and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi John, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My business partner and I had been talking about the fact that in 2015 there were no craft breweries in Gwinnett County. I couldn’t believe that with the growth that industry had experienced a county as large as Gwinnett didn’t have a brewery to call its own. We started to look into it and it started to make sense. There were a lot of barriers to entry standing in our way. We took it one step at a time and in September of 2017 we opened our doors to the public as Gwinnett’s first craft brewery!!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have a degree in management information systems from the University of Georgia. I worked for a few different companies in various IT positions for 14 years. I found that I really enjoyed working with people and helping them accomplish there career goals so I settled into management. It was a journey of a lot of ups and downs and I learned a tremendous amount about management as well as about myself. I always felt like there was something more though. My brother in law Marty Mazzawi is my business partner. He is a dentist at his families practice that they have been growing for 50 years. He is very much a entrepreneur and he had a vision to harness my love of beer and his entrepreneurial spirit into what Slow Pour has become. It was a journey that started in early 2015. There was a lot of work to be done to get the doors open but we have been blessed with tremendously talented people that have enabled the dream of Slow Pour Brewing to become a reality.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I mean obviously I would take them to Slow Pour Brewing Company! It is the perfect place to hang out with family and friends. Depending on the day you can everything from live music, bingo, corn hole tournaments, trivia, comedy nights, food trucks, and wonderful downtown restaurants at your finger tips. You had to know that was coming. I would also take them to Outrun Brewing Company. It is our second location that opened in July it has all the same type of wonderful experiences as Slow Pour with and 80’s Miami Vice type of vibe.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Wow it is really hard to pick just one person. Honestly there is an army of people that helped us get to where we are. Everyone on the city council for the City of Lawrenceville, Jody Cambell was our attorney who help get all of the stipulations in place to ensure we could brew in Lawrenceville, every person that has walked through our doors and supported Slow Pour, I mean the list is tremendously long. We could keep this list going for way too long. We are forever grateful for every single person that has helped to put us in the position that we are in.
