We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenn Golgan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jenn, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
When I started there was no balance lol. I worked a job and did my apprenticeship. I pretty much worked every single day all day. On top of that a toddler then I got pregnant again. So the balance only started in the last couple years. I’ve finally been able to keep a schedule that works for me and my family. Some late nights and early mornings drawing, but doing everything in my power to spend time with my family while still working to be better at what I do. I guess just practice and Patience.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Honestly not super great at talking about myself but here we go… I guess on how I got here, I drew every single day. Studies of different art styles and subject matters. Those turned into predrawn designs that built my style and portfolio. It wasn’t easy. Drawing at work drawing at the shop and at home all the time! Being a mother of two and just starting out was just madness. But I thought it could be done. I never imagined I would be where I am now. I work at a great shop with wonderful people. I have a wonderfully
Clientele that I appreciate so much that let me permanently mark them with the thing I love tattooing! I guess I just want people to know that they are capable of lord than what they think they are. I’m still working on what I am capable of every day 🙂
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Definitely the music scene. When I was younger I’d hang out in Atlanta all day. Usually little 5 pizza and hang out in that area. Shopping and food and drinks all right there. Usually end up seeing a show at the masquerade or go to the starlight drive in.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shout out to my husband for supporting and encouraging me to continue when I didn’t think I would make it. My children for being my biggest fans. To my mentor who said yes to teaching me and dealing with my crazy self for so long. Finally to taylor and Kerry for giving me the freedom and encouragement to grow and thrive at their shop.
