We had the good fortune of connecting with Jazlyn Bailey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jazlyn, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success starts with me remaining authentic to who I am and what I like. My brands are an exact reflection of me. They represent what I love and what I’m passionate about. My brands are in me and on me. I pride myself on being the face and biggest marketer for my brand. I don’t leave my house without making sure that one, if not both brands are on public display in my day-to-day life. When I first started my brand (VMB) I had so many ideas of what my approach should be. But I constantly found myself rebranding because I didn’t like the forced feeling I got out of it. One day I had a pep talk with myself saying ” Jazlyn show the people who you are and the face behind the brand. ” From then on content became easy for me. My followers and customers knew me, they learned to trust me, and they got to see the day to day life of me being Jaz the Hustler VS Jaz your every day around the way girl. We started to connect. The more insight to my life the more traffic turned checkouts it became for me. My followers know I am very vocal about what I like and don’t like. I stay honest with them by living by ” I will not sell you anything I wouldn’t wear.” I don’t change who I am no matter the setting you place me in. I’ll still be boujee ole hustling jazz who loves to listen to trap music and have fun. I know as long as I stay consistent I’ll get to my end goal.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a curator, boutique owner, event host, and, EnTRAPreneur. I think what sets me aside from others is my HUSTLE. I am “the bag.” You can catch me doing the groundwork for my business all day long. While working a full-time job I still find ways to work on both of my brands and promote them while on the clock. I network and look for my ideal customer all day long. I go to work representing my brands. Working in the hospitality industry, you meet all types of people daily so I make sure I am always ready if I find my customer. I got to where I am today by staying consistent, being creative, betting on myself, and working hard. Sometimes though, I must say I work too hard. I keep going until I crash out. My journey has been a roller coaster. But, I wouldn’t change the ride. I’ve overcome the trials of being a serial entrepreneur and wanting to quit by constantly betting on myself. I have no idea if my plans will work but I try them and let the vibes take me to where I need to be. I make sure I keep my mental health on the right path by knowing where to draw the line between my finances disturbing my peace. My journey has been smooth since I truly learned not all money is good money. I am quick to turn away a rude customer if it will disrupt my peace. I curated the self-care millionaire movement to not only remind myself but also other small business owners in my community to take care of themselves and show themselves grace. I want the world to know that Vintage Meets Boujee & EnTRAPreneur Playground are two very different brands. Vintage Meets Boujee allows me to still share my love for fashion with the world. While paying homage to my younger self. But , EnTRAPreneur Playground is fresh and sleek. Most importantly it allows me to pour back into my community in so many ways. At the end of the day though my end goal still remains the same no matter which brand you may find me under. “All I wanna do is show love, root for the underdogs , give back to my community and, get money with some of the dopiest people I know.”
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love adventure and being on the go. If you have good tacos drinks & music. You can count me in. I love a lit hookah lounge too. I like making itineraries for days of fun but at the same time, I kind of like being spontaneous and just seeing what direction the wind will blow in that day. I like tapping in with my inner child. One minute I may wanna go bowling. Next, it can be go-karting. No matter where we go we must make the necessary stop at Starbucks once or twice too! I love dancing, singing (even though I cannot.), and simply just having fun. But then on some days my idea of fun is going to the bookstore for hours and getting lost in literature. That’s the best part about living in the city. you have access to all these resources of entertainment right at your fingertips the ideas and adventures are limitless.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost my mom. She’s always there for me. She would make the impossible possible for me to be happy and do or have anything I may want or need. That’s my girl. There is no me without her. There is no VMB or EnTRAPreneur Playground without my mom. Next is Bert. He follows suit and plays any role I may need him to be whenever or wherever. From setting up pop-up shops to building anything my big creative mind may come up with, and driving me across state lines for inventory. No matter what it is, he has been there from the beginning of this journey with me and for me. Without my mom and Bert I honestly know I would not be where I am today. They’re the gas to keep my engine going. They watch my front and my back to make sure I am always well protected and supported in my decisions. I can’t mention my success without thanking my two closest friends Tamier and Tosin. These two have listened to every crazy idea turned executed vision from Day 1. They’ve been my biggest cheerleaders for every single brand/mission I launch. They don’t care if I start 100 brands they still support each one the same. They invest in my vision and shop as regular customers, not as my best friends. They never let me quit or make me feel like I’m dreaming too big. They may let me cry about the struggles of being a thriving entrepreneur but they make me boss up immediately after. I’m so thankful for them holding me accountable for who I am. To my guardian angel. My dad. Though he is no longer with me in physical form, I know and feel him guiding me in everything I do. I know he is proud and that’s all I ever wanted. Lastly , I have a host of other friends and family in my circle as well! You know who you are !
