We had the good fortune of connecting with Teddy Cane and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Teddy, why did you pursue a creative career?
It makes me feel good. Singing gets me through every emotion. Writing helps me channel those emotions into music, which is why I love the creative process of making music. I also love to touch people when I sing. Knowing that I was able to move someone just by singing is so amazing to me. Music is universal and the world doesn’t move without it. I just want to be a part of that impact.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a singer/songwriter from Detroit, MI. I began to write music at the age of 12 and started recording music at the age of 18. I am an avid R&B lover and there has been so many changes in the sound of R&B today. I still believe in that vintage sound of 90’s/00’s with a little bit of today’s sound. I love to create music that takes you back to a familiar place but then brings you back to the now. Pursuing your dream is never easy, and pursuing a career in music is even harder.
There were many challenges, both musically and personally, that I’ve had to endure along the way. Different financial struggles, feeling like my craft is falling on deaf ears, etc. But I never let any of those challenges detour me from my dream. I just continue to keep pushing forward, perfecting my craft, and most of all keeping my faith. I’ve learned that you can’t please everyone, that everyone is not going to like you or support you, and that no one owes you anything. When you know all of these things and you still decide to keep going, then best believe that success is not too far behind and I believe that wholeheartedly.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Aww man there’s so much to out here in Atlanta. Lol. But let’s see….depending on the time of the year we may hit a sports event. If it’s the summer time we may take a ride to Tybee Island. We would definitely have to hit Juicy Crab. Slutty Vegan is also a must. lol. Maybe a couple of day parties of course. And we would have to go to Atlanta Breakfast Club. I don’t have an exact order, but these are just a few things I can think of.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are many who play a role in the man I am today and the success that I’ve achieved thus far. But no one plays a bigger role than my mother. I know, it’s pretty cliche, but the journey to success my mom took wasn’t an easy one and many obstacles were present throughout the journey. But watching her persevere through those obstacles, and still be able to raise/teach/guide me without mentally breaking is definitely worth recognizing. So shout out to you mom and thank you.
