We had the good fortune of connecting with Isaac Gordon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Isaac, what matters most to you?
Integrity

Integrity is defined as the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness. It is also defined as the state of being whole and undivided. I’ve always loved words with double meanings and this one takes the cake for me because of the ethical importance, as well as its symbolic meaning. I’ve always defined it as what someone does when no one else is looking. What sort of human are you in those moments? When you can or when you think you can get away with it… what do you do?

I work in the music industry and this comes up a lot. It’s a valuable thing when you work with someone who does good business. Many buyers come to us so that they know they are going directly to the artist and won’t be scammed out of thousands of dollars.

What should our readers know about your business?
We are a boutique booking agency, currently specializing in music and comedy. We are ranked #1 on Google for the search term “boutique booking agency” and we are pretty excited about it. We have had the honor of being the first booking agency to book talent such as Tank & The Bangas, Benny The Butcher, Jane Handcock, Harry Mack, and Lost Dog Street Band. We pride ourselves with finding talent that is right at that “breaking point” hence the name. In January (2022), we officially launched our comedy department representing acts with various credits from Saturday Night Live alum to CONAN and Comedy Central appearances.

COVID was a very difficult time. Breakpoint Booking officially launched in 2018, then we ran head first into a pandemic. All we could do was hunker down and wait. I left LA and moved back to Ohio for a bit. We made it through and came out stronger but it was definitely unnerving. One of the things we did to stay involved in the music community during the shutdown was push more content to our YouTube channel and our blog.

We are one of the few black-owned talent agencies. We service nightclubs, amphitheaters, coffee shops, venues, live streaming, comedy clubs, PACs, colleges, fairs, casinos, weddings, and corporate or private parties and events worldwide. Our current presence stretches Atlanta, Cleveland and Los Angeles with LA being home base but we currently have agents located in LA, Denver, NYC, Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland and New Jersey.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Buckhead was my first real introduction to Atlanta and I love it there. There are so many places to eat, shop and there’s the mall. I’m also still very much a tourist in Atlanta. There’s a lot I haven’t done yet. So, if I had a full week long trip I’d probably go and see all of the historical sites, throw in The World of Coca Cola and the zoo. I’d also set aside time to see an event at the stadium, especially if one of my Cleveland teams are in town. 🙂

Last time I was really able to go out I had a blast in Glenwood and Flatshoals. I went to an event at ILounge hosted by Wealth Nation! Fun neighborhood. Lots of places to eat and drink and hangout. It was down pouring rain when I was there but I still had fun.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely my husband. He’s supported me for the past 16 years through this crazy journey more than anyone. My family. There are a lot of folks I’d like to shout out but I’ll name a few more.

Heather Reynolds – Heather taught me a lot about talent management and what it takes to make it in the entertainment business.

Yomi Desalu – Yomi is always sending people my way and just generally looking out. I have also learned a lot from him.

Hans Elder, Al Manerson, Brian Walker, Tavia Osby, Keith Gelman, Rob Shaw, Myron Ruffin, Ace Epps, Marlon With The Glasses, Nick Martucci, Roger Paul, Ricky Greenstein, Mark Levy, Mario Abata, Nichelle Murdock, Naveed Hassan, Kelvin Miller, Sean Healy, Rob Terell… I’ll say it again, there’s too many to name. It really does take a village.

My team – My team is amazing. I can’t stress how lucky I am to have found some of the most passionate, driven, knowledgable and hardworking people to help me grow this thing. Breakpoint Booking would not be where it is today without everyone’s collective effort.

Probably the most important, Marcia Jonke, executive director for WCRS in Akron, OH. She was the lady that took a chance on me when I was on probation in my early twenties. She spent a majority of her life looking out for the less fortunate. She was very inspirational in my life and I’m not sure where I’d be today if it wasn’t for her.
