We had the good fortune of connecting with Hayley Reed and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hayley, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started my company in 2008 with the intention of pushing my music. As a recording artist, I found that none of our needs were in one space. When it came time for me to put together my project, I had to go to so many different organizations to get what I needed.
During this time, I was working in Corporate America. I was unhappy because I knew there was more to my life than what I was experiencing. After saving up my money, I resigned from my job, and moved to Atlanta from Nashville in January 2020. When I got here, I declared that I would only work within my passion. Right when I began networking, BOOM! COVID-19 hit. I had to completely change my plans.
In the midst of looking for work, I had the inclination of expanding my company. I revisited the opportunity that I encountered while releasing my music: “What if there was an Indie Record Label that offered or had access to EVERYTHING that indie artists deem necessary to be successful.” That’s who Pnuma is!
I finished my business plan. Hired my business partners, and the rest is in the making.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Pnuma Music Group, LLC is an independent record label based in Atlanta, GA. Our aim of starting this business was to work with established and upcoming recording artists to either launch their music career or push their music career to higher heights. As these individuals are balancing work, school, and life, we are working on their behalf to be the tree of life for their talent.
Our mission as an independent record label is to build a label geared towards helping our artists and our community reach their highest heights by breathing life into their careers.
Pnuma Music Group is a resource for recording artists as they navigate through the mire of the music industry. Every item needed to be successful in this business is offered by our business. We provide a safe haven for artists to be themselves and be comfortable to work in privacy. Most importantly, we educate our artists about the business so that they won’t be robbed or taken advantage of by “sharks.”
We are honest and strategic in our approach. We handle our clients with care and pride. We have quality products and tools that we utilize to record. Pnuma Music Group has the experience needed to catapult ANY ARTISTS that desires our services.
We offer products and services such as artist development, Virtual Private Music Lessons (Piano, Voice, Guitar, Violin, Bass, Rap Lyricism), General Label services, Artist Development, A&R, Production, etc.
It’s about the music AND THE MUSIC MAKERS! We make it our priority to focus on both.
I got to where I am as a business with lots of prayers and the willingness to move forward even when things fell through. It’s a challenge yet an opportunity to become stronger and wiser through the lessons I’m learning in the process.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting from out of town (even though she lives here…chuckles), I would take her to St. James Live for the best drinks and live music. Then, I would take her to The Garden Restaurant for good food and a lovely ambiance. Later on in the week, we would partake in some “retail therapy,” at Phipps Plaza. Since Candytopia is back, we would go there to the amazing art that they have. That place is fun and interesting.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my Shoutout to GOD, my loving family for their love and support. Mark Collier and Jeff Morris from the Small Business Development Center of The University of Georgia, and my amazing sidekick, Cameron Walls. I also want to give a big thank you to Gina Miller, Johnnie Walker and NABFEME for being such a beacon of light in my life.
