We had the good fortune of connecting with Georgia Dawkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Georgia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The Purpose Producer saved my life. After working in the news industry for nearly 10 years, I decided to be more intentional with my gifts. I now create content that helps people heal. Unfortunately, in the media, if it bleeds it leads. That approach can have a traumatic effect on one’s psyche. I can’t count how many times I have written “fatal crash,” “double homicide,” or “murder investigation.” I decided that I didn’t want to do that to the audience anymore. I no longer want to be a part of the problem. The content I create is a part of the solution. Through Georgia Dawkins Media, I produce “The Purpose Producer” podcast where I honor people who are using their gifts to help others reach their destiny. By bringing conversations of purpose to the forefront, I am doing my part.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Entrepreneurship has taught me that my mind is my most valuable asset; therefore, talk therapy is my most important investment. As a business owner, I have learned that you have to be your first business partner. You have to be someone you like working with and if you’re not, you have to practice becoming that person. There have been times in my career when battling anxiety and depression cost me money, and that doesn’t feel good. In those moments, I may experience imposter syndrome and spend weeks talking myself into something I am more than qualified to do. Or, it could look like not feeling motivated to show up for me. Not wanting to get out of bed, off the couch, or walk into my office. Through therapy, I have learned how to reprogram my mind and couch myself back into the corner office where I belong. Positive self-talk is essential to show up for my business with confidence. I now talk to my therapist on a more regular basis because my mind is my company.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, I would always take visitors on a tour of my favorite coffee shops. I am not a big fan of traditional tourist destinations and a lot of times a coffee shop is the only place to gather my thoughts. Gilly Brew Bar in Stone Mountain is my favorite coffee shop! It’s housed inside the old mayor’s mansion at the epicenter of Historic Downtown Stone Mountain. The atmosphere is healing and refreshing and I always meet new people when I visit. My Coffee Shop at East Lake’s eccentric environment and southern hospitality are worth going back for over and over again. The biscuits are amazing but people really love their signature basil lemonade. The Chattahoochee Coffee Company is another must-see! It sits on the Chattahoochie River overlooking a huge field. That one is hard to get into because they quickly reach capacity. Nevertheless, I go there for revival and I always take off my shoes to ground myself in the flowing water. It’s a great place to stop any time of year. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My village has always shown me the power of being in position. From my tiny town in Sebring, Florida to the highest of seven hills at Florida A&M University (FAMU), I am constantly surrounded by unwavering support. My community believes in everything I produce and they have been there every step of the way. When I published, Everybody Knows: The Power of Being in Position in 2018, FAMU invited me back for a book signing. It meant the world to be to see former professors and current students line up to purchase. Back in my hometown, former teachers, pastors, and classmates all got their copies. Seeing all of the support made me feel like I could do anything.
