We had the good fortune of connecting with Felicia Fencl and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Felicia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Quite simply, the attractiveness of freedom led me to becoming my own boss. To me, entrepreneurship represented the ability to express my creativity beyond the confines often found in corporate spaces. I was empowered to create a business from the ground up which allowed me to be the decision maker of policies and procedures that ultimately would shape the company’s culture.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a Co-Founder of The Collective Shine Agency. The agency is a full service, boutique public relations and event management firm. Our company represents organizations and talents in the beauty, entertainment, sports and lifestyle industries. We operate offices in both the Atlanta & Phoenix Metropolitan Areas. As the company’s Senior Publicist, my main job is to bridge the gap between our clients and the public. I do this through a variety of ways. Specifically, I seek out opportunities to highlight our clients; along with their missions, products and services. I am constantly looking for creative ways to help them shine which may or may not always be traditional. I lean on my creativity a lot. As a 20+ year veteran of the United States Air Force, I was fortunate enough to learn invaluable skills, that I now utilize when servicing my client’s needs. The many experiences I took with me after I retired, have shaped me to be a confident leader who puts service before self and who carries out every task with integrity. Transitioning to the civilian sector hasn’t always been the easiest. I was faced with challenges I never experienced while in the military. Instead of retreating and throwing in the towel, I embraced the bumps in the road and set out to vibrate higher. Not only that, I learned to trust myself and my ability to get the job done. This road has been one of confidence building and perseverance. I had to believe in myself. That was the only way any of this was going to work. I want the world to know that dreaming is not only done at night. As we continue to build The Collective Shine Agency into a mecca firm, we continuously dream in color and think bigger. Our brand is here to stay. As minority women, we are even more determined to break barriers and rise above any naysayer or obstacle standing in our way.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
The Atlanta Metro area is such an awe inspiring place. There are so many things to do here! When I have friends come into town, I am eager to show it all to them. A visit to Stone Mountain Park for an early morning hike or a stroll on the grounds of Peidmont Park would be the perfect start to our day.    Downtown and Midtown Atlanta are must visits. These areas of the city are filled with eateries and sightseeing opportunities galore. I love visiting the lobby of CNN and the World of Coca-Cola. A photo on the Jackson Street Bridge is an absolute must. I’m a thrill seeker, so a visit to Six Flags will definitely be on our list. Tapas and drinks at one of the many city restaurants is always a fun way to pass the time, before making our way to laid back spots such as Fellaship for late night fun. Oh, and shopping in Buckhead will be on the agenda. Also, one cannot come here and not relish in history. We will definitely go visit monumental sites surrounding the civil rights movement.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My entire tribe of family, friends and industry peers all have played a vital role in all of my successes. If I were to pinpoint those who deserve the spotlight, I would most definitely highlight the strong women in my life. From the women in my family to the women in my circle, they all deserve worthy recognition.
