We had the good fortune of connecting with Eva Lester and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eva, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
As a working mom, it sometimes feels like work-life balance is impossible. Back in my corporate days and when my daughter was a baby, I often felt like I was failing at both. I worked long hours, traveled a lot for business, had a long commute, along with the responsibilities of being a mother and a wife. Over time, the stress of it all became unbearable and I burned out.
As a result, I had to make some scary changes in my life. I quit my corporate career to pursue my passions and to have more time for my family and wellbeing. In this new season in my life, I’ve learned to let go of perfectionism, allow myself to do nothing and be ok with it, and dedicate time for self-care without feeling guilty. But let’s be real, as a business owner and mom, work-life balance is still a bit elusive. But, the biggest lesson that I’ve learned from this experience is to give myself some grace.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Like most of us, I stare at digital screens most of the day. And for a long time, I dismissed my blurry vision, headaches, and fatigue for symptoms of being an entrepreneur, mom, and wife. But, after some research, I found I had symptoms of digital eye strain. This problem I experienced, inspired me to develop a stylish and functional line of computer glasses.
Gleam Eyewear is a brand of anti-blue light computer glasses designed for the modern working woman. Our glasses filter harmful blue light emitted from digital devices that can sometimes cause eye fatigue, blurry vision, insomnia, and headaches. As a user of glasses myself, it was important for me to design a collection of eyewear that expresses your personal style and is not only fashionable but also practical. Our styles are fun, unique, comfortable, and are inspired by trailblazing women in history.
Gleam’s mission is to empower women to feel confident and protected while building their businesses, corporate careers, and side hustles and by also contributing to women’s empowerment causes through charitable donations and support.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Although I have some amazing friends, they don’t always get me when it comes to my business. I‘ve found some great inspiration and support from women entrepreneur groups such as We are Women Owned (https://www.wearewomenowned.com/) which is a national sisterhood and Gurl2Girl (https://www.gurl2girl.com) a local sisterhood in Atlanta. These ladies understand the struggles of entrepreneurship, offer great advice, and celebrate your wins. Find your girl gang ASAP, you won’t regret it!
