We had the good fortune of connecting with Ericka McCracken and Niesha Baker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ericka McCracken and, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
To be owners and consumers of products that I purchase. The beauty industry is a multi-billion dollar industry that doesn’t have a lot of Black women owners while we are the primary purchasers of beauty products in the U.S.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Both of us have 9-5 jobs that sustain our families as we continue to grow BOSSY. Niesha is an Academic Performance and Support Coordinator and Ericka is a Human Resources Specialist for the Govt. I know that our professional careers allows us to glean the organizational skills we use in our day to day jobs to help make BOSSY better. We both have learned that great skills and procedures are transferrable. Thats been one of our greatest lessons. We’ve also learned that the things that we may not be able to implement during our 9-5 are things we plan to implement on our 5-9. Those things include advocating for social justice, celebrating Black women excellence, etc.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Favorite Spots in the City of Atlanta: We love to EAT! Ericka prefers brunch so Flying Biscuit is a must for first timers. Niesha and Ericka love a good walk outside so the Beltine if its just for a stroll. or the Silver Comet Trail for a long bike ride. Niesha loves Tin Lizzy’s for Mexican food and drinks. Pre-Covid, Niesha loved hanging out at Monticello for their day parties. We both love Jeni’s for their delicious ice cream. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We are thankful for our tribe! Niesha and I have known each other for over 25 years and there is a tribe of us who have been friends since Elementary School. Ebony, Nastassja and Tansy are there for us for anything we may need. We are thankful that they support us with their words and with their dollars. Esohe, another friend of BOSSY invited us to have our soft launch at her house and I don’t think she truly understands what that means to us. It helped hold us accountable to ensure we have everything ready and to keep pushing. Victoria, also a great friend of BOSSY continues to provide us educational tools to help us as we continue to grow BOSSY. Her wealth of knowledge has saved us time and money.
