Meet Erica La’Shun: Entrepreneur & Culinary Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Erica La’Shun and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Erica La’Shun, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
Other than deciding to work for myself , my son is the single most important motivation that contributes to my success. Deciding to be a mom without the support of the father is a hard decision but there was no second guessing or turning back! I needed to up my hustle and increase my finances because I have someone who is depending on me to not fail, to be able to afford a lifestyle which he deserves. It is instantly gratifying when people like my creations, then they taste it , immediately they are like: so you made this, it’s so GOOD! I am so tickled about how excited I get when people book me. I also have learned having a strong network is important but relying on yourself and having a plan supersedes that . I had an event that I put so much thought into and planned some of the detail but not the logistics , by all account I felt like a FAILURE but after I ugly cried thinking about my mistakes, the lost investment , and the disappointment; I wrote down my opportunities and regrouped and had a successful event the next weekend. My son gives me the extra push to wake up and be great and life is a constant reminder that if you have faith in yourself , you can create something that other people believe in. Life is just like baking with the right ingredients , right amount of HEAT, then boom you got something other people want. At Consume and Confess, we are passionate about our products and services, and constantly evolving to create an amazing experience for our customers.
What should our readers know about your business?
My business is based in cakes! I started out wanting to meal prep and do dipped treats, i.e. strawberries, oreos, pretzels, etc but cakes and cupcakes are winning! I love being a part of someone’s celebration and letting the cake be my canvas. Birthday celebrations and anniversaries are sentimental and I get to be a part of that. I have definitely discovered, people will pay for what they WANT. I recently added bar tending as a service option and that is always fun. I love being able to do what I enjoy and the fact that it resonates with people and they are willing to pay , it’s a WIN for me! My first time being a vendor at a large scale event was a disaster , I was ill prepared because I for one focused on the wrong things and depended on someone who ultimately was not as vested as I . I learned a lot that day and it hurt! However, I focused on what I can do better and what I did right, I looked at equipment, packaging, set ups, lay out and recognized I needed more help if I wanted to do larger scale events. I am proud of my growth and knowing when you work for yourself there is no ceiling. It is your brand, your standards, your vision, and that is phenomenal . I want a food truck and an event space and I know if I continue to work and turn my profits into investments we will be able to do just that. I am here to stay and I want the world to know its only up from here!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love my bestie , she is a great braider , shout out Braiding Angels, and if I wanted to show her a good time we are going to relax and wine , and dine and snap it up! I like to think of myself as well rounded and the first thing I want to do is get waxed and a yoni steam at Wax Xperience in McDonough, Andrea is amazing and her salon has such a vibe. I’m hitting up Breakfast at Barneys because I love that they do not have beef and pork on the menu, then taking in some sun at Lake Allatoona and driving the boat. One we have did that any given lounge or club in Atlanta is lit because I am the life of the party! I love Jeju, my hairstylist is amazing and I sincerely love my city. You can catch me skydiving, scuba diving, horseback riding, skating, taking flight lessons or anything with a wow factor, I love life!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First Christian, my son. He is my ‘sonshine! When I am exhausted and I haven’t quite figured out the next step, I put on a smile for him and keep pushing. My parents watch my little bundle of joy whenever I need them to. My friends could not be better! I have been rocking with the same boss women for years now and it amazes me how they support so effortlessly and speak words of encouragement when I need it the most.
