We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Jacqueline H. Sherman (aka Dr. Jac) and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Jac, what do you attribute your success to?
Sex and intimacy are topics that are taboo to discuss. I knew if I wanted to create a successful business as an Intimacy and Relationship Coach I had to lead with vulnerability. There is so much shame around sexuality, which has many people suffering in silence. My vulnerability and relatability have created trust with my clients and online community. I share some of the challenges that exist in long-term relationships, and how my own past issues with intimacy and sex confidence have led me on this career path.

Tell us about your business.
I own Your Exceptional Sensuality Center, LLC. (The Y.E.S. Center, LLC.). Through this sexuality coaching business, I have created a safe space for women to discover sexual understanding. I believe every woman deserves to find and feel acceptance. As an Intimacy and Relationship Coach, I help women build sexual confidence. My introspective coaching programs teach women to cultivate their sensuality, own their sexual empowerment, and have more satisfying intimate relationships.

My individual and group coaching services are unique, and provide a platform for women to feel secure, supported, and seen. This approach helps them heal and build the confidence they need to boldly step into this new journey with their partner(s) and themselves.

I also offer couples coaching to help couples explore new activities together and gain comfortability discussing their intimate wants and desires. Couples can meet with me individually for several coaching sessions, or in a group format during a couples trip or retreat.

I am also a sexual empowerment speaker. I speak at many conferences and always communicate from a sex-positive perspective. Common topics of expertise include Sexual Freedom and Confidence, Overcoming Perfectionism, and Shame and Miscarriage.

What sets her apart from others?
Through my personal journey with having a miscarriage, I was inspired to expand my coaching curriculum to be inclusive of women who’ve experienced infant and pregnancy loss and/or have struggled with fertility. Through this addition to the program, I create space for women to release the shame traditionally associated with such challenges.

What are you most excited about?
I am working on creating a physical product that will help women boost their sexual confidence and have mind-blowing intimacy in 3 proven steps! This will be the first time I make my 1:1 coaching method accessible as a guided solo practice. The product will be launched fall/winter of 2022.

How did you get to where you are today? Was it easy? What did you overcome?
Prayer and listening to the desires of my heart. In my Ph.D. program I was shown very limited options of what the career path for a psychologist could look like. I did not fit in. At first, this made me discouraged and I felt the pressure to just settle for the traditional private practice or government positions that felt reliable and safe. Then the whispers I was hearing to take a different path became screams. I could no longer ignore them. I leaned into exploring how I could put all my talents together to create a dream career. This birthed the Y.E.S. Center, LLC.

It was certainly not easy to get here. I had to intentionally get out of my own way. Before I started my coaching practice, I was nervous I wouldn’t be a successful business owner. Limiting beliefs were holding me back. I invested in coaching. I joined a group coaching program called Made to Do This. It was filled with like-minded budding entrepreneurs and creatives who felt stuck in their 9-5, and did not want their dreams to die inside of them. After completing this program, I quit my job as a Psychologist for the Veterans Affairs Hospital and took the leap into entrepreneurship. I haven’t looked back since! The freedom I feel is priceless.

What lessons have you learned along the way?
Some of the biggest lessons I have learned thus far include …..to trust myself, and be authentic. When I first started my business I felt like an anomaly in my industry. My approach to discussing sex and intimacy is gentle, compassionate, and assuring. I questioned if I could ever truly gain the visibility I hoped for without being provocative. The more I showed up authentically, the more people have connected with me and my brand. This has led me to trust that… who I am is enough. The people who are supposed to be attracted to my approach, will be.

What do you want the world to know about you or your brand story?
I have been divinely assigned to help women Discover Sexual Understanding. I believe when you have Sexual Understanding, you can free yourself from judgment, reduce feelings of shame with your body, and be more present during times of sexual intimacy. I offer myth-shattering advice, tools, and resources for women who want more- from the lens of a Sexologist.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my best friend to Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. We would start off the day by having bottomless mimosas at brunch, followed by a spa day. We would then go to the beach during the afternoon, and have dinner overlooking the ocean.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout is to my Husband, Paul Sherman. I would have never felt comfortable walking away from the security of my 9-5 to start my own business without his encouragement. Every step of the way, he has been there, reminding me of the faith he has in my abilities. Also, it is important for me to shout him out because I understand that being the partner of a Sexologist and Intimacy Coach is not for the faint of heart. He has been so understanding of my purpose and passion, and very open to supporting my business in whatever way he can. The fact that my work does not intimidate him or make him feel jealous or insecure is such a turn on! I’m so lucky : )
