We had the good fortune of connecting with Donahue Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Donahue, how does your business help the community or world?
My business helps the community in so many ways. honestly, I didn’t fully understand until 5-10 years in the business of designing what it means to be a designer. Designing is basically a service whether, it’s about drawing or creating a logo that will start someone’s dream, it all matters. Each aspect you put into designing something for someone is that persons image and brand. You are essentially creating what that person will be known for or remembered by. I’ve done logos for small restaurants and for large rideshare companies and each individually feel special because they could potentially be a powerhouse in the future. Another plus to the job, is that a lot of people who look like me, I am helping to create their future and helping black entrepreneurs get their start and I feel honored by that.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art stems from what clients want or to what is currently running through my mind that I need to get out. I like to focus on what’s deep inside my mind that I want to express and showcase in a way people can understand but may have never seen. When there are things I can’t get out of my head by just talking. I feel as though the work i do and how I do it stems from old comic books and a little surrealism. I like racially charged art with a little that’s interesting and I’ve never seen anyone do that before.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well I have a lot of friends who have moved out of the area and when they do come back to Atlanta there’s always a million things to do. I really like to start by seeing what’s going on in the city that might carry a crowd. In other cases I like to hit a few bars such as jacks. I also love to hit some of my favorite restaurants in the city.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I like to honestly thank everyone of my customers who’ve takes what I do seriously and worked with me to come to resolution, and developing something that will stand the test of time. I’m very appreciative of the emails and dm’s I get with people who are ready to make their dreams come true. I feel like me being accessible gives young entrepreneurs the ability to know that starting a business doesn’t have to be difficult and completely corporate. Those who believe in me and take their success seriously I thank you.
