We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominique Graves and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dominique, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
Greetings! I’m originally from the south side of Chicago and I’d say my upbringing and the things i experienced growing up that may have been unpleasant or traumatic molded me into what i needed to be in this lifetime. I was forced to grow up early being the oldest of all my siblings and having to “mother them” in addition to trying to experience my childhood and that made things very stressful for me. I developed a “self sacrifice” within myself that became extremely unhealthy throughout my youth and adulthood, I had the worst confidence within myself, i didn’t fit in with the kids in my schools and got picked on at times because of my clothes, or my hair or the welts i had on my body from abuse at home and i began to copy the bad habits that i saw in my mom including being promiscuous, allowing others to use and abuse me in addition to many other traits i had to unlearn. But despite all of that, this life journey gave me the inspiration i needed to be more than i saw in my family, more than i saw in my neighborhood and now i inspire and counsel many men, women and children that may have traumas of any kind, struggles with life in general, I cook and feed the souls of many and i live in my truth. Ya know when we come here to “earth” we don’t remember who we truly are inside, the things we mastered etc. It’s for a reason. Let’s just say I had to get in the nitty gritty of life fully so that I can be a representation of what it looks like in the physical to go through trials and tribulations, understanding of those trials and tribulations and transmute the energy to the highest frequency so that i can use it to heal and teach others how to turn their pain into power.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have a food related business called “Chitown Mildsauce” that produces a sauce that’s famous in chicago called Mildsauce, Caribbean BBQ sauce, Chicago apparel and gift boxes filled with Chicago snacks and sauces that can be sent to loved ones to have a little taste of home. “The Holistic Chef” is a private chef and spiritual business that includes natural products for the body such as soaps, scrubs, manifesting candles, yoni stems and more. I also have a spiritual church “Healing Worldwide in Chicago” where i travel to do healing ceremonies, womb healing, tarot readings, life coaching and marriage officiating services. This entire entrepreneur journey has been touch especially since its been trial and error with me, i didn’t have much help and i didn’t know any successful business owners growing up nor had any direction as far as building business credit, obtaining loans etc but it was worth every tear. It also gave me the inspiration to make sure i prioritize helping people in urban neighborhoods to have access to business classes, funding, emotional support and all things that can be holding a person back from being their true self and enjoying life and what it has to offer to the fullest.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In Atlanta, I’d say everywhere lol. It’s such a beautiful eventful city and its always tons of things to get into. I utilize Eventbrite since i don’t really have friends here yet, I’ve only been here about 5 months so far. There’s networking events, parties, food events etc. I’m not a “OUT” person but your network is your net worth especially in a new city so I’ve been forcing myself out of my comfort zone lately.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I owe my success to my “Ori”, my higher self, the god within me that guides my steps, protects me from myself and others and loves me unconditionally. My ancestors and spirit guides, the relatives that chose to uplift me throughout my life, my clients and supporters both who know me personally or watch me from afar via social media….. I’m so appreciative for you guys advice and love from me starting my first business at 18 til now! Most of my love and support came from strangers and I honestly don’t know where i would be without those random inboxes of inspiration or just being a genuine ear when i wasn’t at my best. Last but not least i owe my success to my son Je’Marey. That’s my miracle babyyyyyy. I manifested every little detail about this little human down to his birthday and he has been my backbone for 8 years. Super super encouraging and loves like no other! I’ve worked in many restaurants with my baby there as well watching youtube in his little stroller, traveling with me to do events, telling me I’m the best chef, the best mom and the strongest mom. Baby I owe you my life! At times when i thought about giving up you gave me every reason to stay and fight just looking into those beautiful little eyes.
