We had the good fortune of connecting with Demond Craig and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Demond, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting our clothing brand, Original Homies, centered towards staying connected with our Day 1 Friends and creating original garments for us to wear, in representation of one another.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Original Homies initially started as a service, customizing denim garments in Tennessee. In 2016, My partner and I decided to turn the business into a clothing brand. We are two creative individuals that come up with different ideas to promote, collectively. I moved to Los Angeles in 2017 to grow the brand and my partner moved to Atlanta. We release our collections in limited pieces, to keep an exclusive edge and fresh content for our market.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Friday, I’m inviting the homies to the biopic market in downtown Los Angeles to shop with all of the vendors that participate in an event called @ourpieceofthepie from 5pm-10pm Location: 411 S Hewitt St Los Angeles CA 90013
Saturday, I’m inviting the homies to The Grand Central Market, also located in DTLA, to enjoy a variety of food options, drinks and to shop with the small businesses that participate in the GCM Bazaar event from 10am-5pm
Location: 317 S Broadway Los Angeles Ca 90015
Sunday, I’m inviting the homies to the Melrose Trading Post to support all of the local creatives that participate from 9am-5pm
Location: 7850 Melrose Ave Los Angeles Ca 90046
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to my partner Damaj Wilson. Two heads are better than one and I’m thankful to have a business partner on this journey with me.
Shoutout to my queen Leah Moore. She provides a lot of creative direction for the brand. She sees the daily grind it takes to run a clothing line. Being that my business partner and I live in different states, she helps out with pretty much everything that I need
