We had the good fortune of connecting with DeMariah Newsome and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi DeMariah, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
One of my favorite quotes is by Jesse Jackson and it states, “Never look down on someone unless you’re helping them up.” Relating it to my industry, it means to not look down on someone or to criticize their work because you feel as if they aren’t on the same caliber as you. Instead, help them, teach them, or provide them with resources that can help them improve. Remember the person you look down on today could be the person you look up to tomorrow.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
DeMariah Newsome Photography is based in the South Georgia area, and specializes in, but is not limited to, glamour, creative, family, maternity and child portraiture. I pride myself on making my clients feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera. Once a client looks and feels their best, that’s when their confidence boosts and they find their inner-model. What sets me apart from other photographers, is ME! I believe that my passion, persistence, and professionalism, catches the attention of new potential clients.
I am most proud of how much I’ve grown as a photographer. I am even more proud when others recognize my growth as well.
I am where I am today by having amazing family, friends, clientele, and also by continuing to educate myself. I’m always perfecting my craft by learning new techniques and skills that help me stand out amongst the other photographers in my area. No matter how much you know about the field you’re in, you can never stop learning and improving. Expanding your knowledge will keep your ideas fresh and your passion alive in the long run.
Getting to where I am today was not easy, but it wasn’t too tough either. I had a few challenges along the way. The top two being gaining clientele and comparing my work to others. I overcame both by just focusing on me and improving my art. By constantly uploading my work on social media, people eventually took notice and began to book me.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hmm..that’s a tough one because there’s really not much to do in Valdosta honestly so we would probably go to Florida, maybe to the beach just to get away and relax.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First, I would like to start off by giving a HUGE shoutout to my incredible mom! She has done so much for me and my photography career! She lets me use her space and she is always ready to be my model when I have an idea or when I want to practice new techniques that I’ve learned. I just can’t thank her enough! I also want to shoutout my family, friends, and those who continue to help push me to step out of my comfort zone everyday!
