We had the good fortune of connecting with Dani Glover and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dani, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to create a space for women to have all of there beauty and fashion needs together in one spot. So many times we have to travel to four or five different locations in order to get ready for a date night. It’s stressful and it takes the fun out of getting GLAMMED up. I envisioned a one stop shop where clients can be serviced from head to toe leaving no reason for them to have to go anywhere else except to the fun. These services would include hair, makeup, nail, esthetician as well as fashion shoes, clothes, and purses.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a licensed Master Cosmetologist. I am able to perform not only hair services, I can also do nails as well as esthetician work such as body hair removal/waxing and facials. What sets me apart from other stylist is my attitude. There are a lot of talented people in this industry but if your attitude sucks so will you. I am not perfect and I have some bad days HOWEVER my clients never have to experience it. I try to remain positive and keep the energy within my suite positive and happy! I’ve dedicated 2020 to growing and learning and that’s just what I’ve been doing. I’ve taken a lash extensions class and will be adding this service in 2021. I also will begin selling hair extensions and making wigs in 2021. This journey has not been easy but it has been worth every long night and early morning I had to endure. I stayed consistent and true to myself and that’s what got me here. I never gave up and I always ask questions. I think people get comfortable when things are going good, I don’t. When things are going good it’s time to elevate to the next level. Elevation doesn’t have to be drastic, it can be as small as adding a new shampoo to your stock room. The important thing to think about is the benefits of this shampoo and how much it’s going to change your clients life. Take that shampoo and turn it into gold babes. We think everything has to be big or dramatic when all it has to do is make sense. If you can make it make sense YOU GOT IT!! It wasn’t easy getting to where I am today. We live in a world of social media and sometimes it can be draining. I remember going to some of my favorite stylists pages and seeing all of these likes and comments on people wanting to get their hair done and loving their work and it was very discouraging for me. I had to take a break from social media and really focus on myself. I began taking my time with my clients, making sure every hair was in place. I’d look at my photos each night and find 4 things I could have done better remembering them for next time. I began asking questions and honestly looking at YouTube. I’ve learned a closed mouth won’t get fed and nothing will be handed to you. I’ve also learned hard work pays off and consistency is key. Don’t be afraid to say no or I need help, we are all human and no one is perfect, well except for Beyoncé 🙃 I want you all to know that if you can dream it you can achieve it. Never be afraid to start a new dream. I would have never thought I’d be doing hair professionally and look at me now 2 years later booked and busy!!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Omg if my bestie is in town we are definitely hitting up Harold’s Chicken and Ice Bar on Edgewood. This originated from my home town Chicago and Atlanta has found a way to take it to the max!! The chicken is amazing and add the music, drinks and hookah….IT’S LIT!! We’d go to the botanical gardens and take millions of pics. Of course shopping and festivals!!! Hit the belt line and rent the scooters and site see! Omg can someone call my bestie right now and tell her to come visit!!!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to 2 people. The first person helped to mold me into this hard working tough woman who ALWAYS opens her eyes (inside joke) and she is my amazing and beautiful teacher Ms. Chakuwura at The Atlanta Beauty and Barber Academy. She pushed me so hard and she saw my potential. She never accepted the words “no” or “I can’t” and I’m so thankful for her. She prepared me for this beautiful journey I am on and I love her dearly. The second person is actually a group of people, my Twelve23 beauties. Everyone says they have the best clients but none are better than mine. I wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for my clients. They keep me going they keep me laughing and they keep me grounded. I’ve gained some really good friends and family over the past 2 years and I’m excited to keep adding new people to the squad!! Shoutout to all of my clients I love you all and thank you all!!!!
